Brumos
Racing & Drivers Mark 100th Milestone at Signature Daytona Race
As the GRAND-AM
Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 gets set to celebrate its 100th
Daytona Prototype competition, Brumos Racing is making history of its own at the Brumos Porsche
250 in Daytona this year. Brumos, instrumental in kicking off the DP program in 2003, is
the only team in the Rolex Series to have competed in every one of those one hundred DP races.
And although Darren Law did not join David Donohue as a full-time Brumos driver until 2004,
Law drove in each DP race of 2003, and so will join Donohue in marking the 100th race
milestone at Daytona.
Hurley Haywood, whose racing success through the years has made Brumos
a household name, is proud of
the role his team has played in the development of the series. “Brumos
is one of a few teams that got
on board with the Daytona Prototype program in the beginning,” he said.
“Both our #58 and #59 cars
competed in each race through 2009. We are running only our #59 car this season, but Brumos is the only team that
has been in every DP race.
We also have the only two
drivers in the series starting their 100th race and it is fitting that
it will be at the Brumos Porsche
250. We are really proud of Darren and David and we are fortunate to
have them both on board.
We have seen some
setbacks this season, but in the past when that has happened, our team
just digs in, gets the job
done and makes the turn. I hope the Brumos Porsche 250 will prove to be
our turnaround race this year
and we can put the #59 Brumos Porsche back in the front at Daytona.” Always happy to return to Daytona is one
of 2009’s Brumos Rolex 24 winners, David Donohue. “To me, the Brumos Porsche 250 is like
going back home,” he said. “I always look forward to racing at Daytona – we have always had a
good setup there. This season we’ve had some struggles at some of the other tracks getting the
car consistently competitive, but for Daytona we will have a really good starting point.
It’s great that the Rolex Series will mark their 100th competition at
the Brumos 250 race – Darren
and I are honored to be celebrating our 100th DP start there along with Brumos. This is going to be a great event
for us personally, as well as for our team. We hope to have a great outcome for all of the
Brumos fans who will be there cheering us and the #59 on.”
The 2010 event will mark the 28th year for the annual gathering of
loyal Brumos fans who are
expected to turn out in record numbers for this year’s competition. As
Haywood explained, “Daytona is
the traditional home of our ‘Brumos Boosters Brigade’ and we are happy
to be hosting them again this
year. We always invite our customers, employees, family and friends to
come out and join us for a day
of really great racing. We have several air conditioned suites set
aside on the back straight for
them this year. We will also be introducing the new 2011 Porsche
Cayenne at the event and
representatives from Porsche Cars N.A. will be on hand.
After the race our drivers will
be stopping by to visit with everyone and give them rides in the new
Cayennes. It will be a fun
time and is our way of thanking everyone for supporting Brumos
year-round.”
The Brumos Porsche 250 will be
held on Saturday, July 3rd at Daytona International Speedway. The 2.5 hour race will start at 11:00 AM
ET, and will be broadcast by tape delay on SPEED TV with coverage beginning at 1:00 PM ET.
