Report
Hughes
leads championship after rounds five and six
After a glorious
test day at snetterton on Friday, the heavens opened
for qualifying on Saturday morning. Dave Hughes from Hughes Racing
managed to qualify in 5th position from the grid of 20 in his first
race in wet conditions.
The race which was at 3.15 on Saturday saw no let up in the weather
with rivers of water running across the circuit. From the start Dave
lost a couple of places and dropped back to 8th going into the first
corner. Dave started to push the cars in front and one by one his
persistence and tenacity forced drivers into errors in the torrential
conditions and over the next 20 minutes Dave saw his tenacity pay of
finishing in 3rd position.
Race two on Sunday was a
different race, the sun was shining and by the start of the race the
track had dried out. Dave started 3rd on the grid but again lost a
couple of places and dropped to 5th where it remained until 3 laps from
the end.
The race was stopped due to a major engine failure in to a
high speed corner which had left oil on the circuit. After a 10 minute
wait whilst the oil was cleaned up the race was restarted, Dave got a
better start of the grid gaining back the 2 places he lost earlier.
Unfortunately Dave hit the oil on track with a lap to go and had to run
on to the grass, 3 cars passed during this incident and he finished in
6th.
Despite a 3rd & a 6th Dave
now leads the Boxster Championship 3 points ahead of GT Legend Dave
Clarke.
The BRSSC Porsche Championship
now moves on the Anglesey on the 27th June
