Nürburgring
24 Hours, Interim report after four hours
Quotes
from Porsche drivers
Marcel Tiemann
(Porsche 911 GT3
R, Manthey Racing), 1st place:
“I made great progress right
after the start. For sure one of the main reasons was that my tyres
reached the right temperature quite quickly. I passed one Audi after
the other simply because I could accelerate out of the corners better.
Once I took the lead I had a free run, was able to maintain my pace and
pull away slightly. The car is handling beautifully.”
Marc Lieb (Porsche 911 GT3 R,
Manthey Racing), 1st place:
“Everything ran perfectly.
Marcel handed me the car in the lead and I was able to pull away
further. He did a fabulous job and the 911 GT3 R is running like
clockwork. I hope it stays like this. The conditions are constant, the
track is dry. I’m coping well with the heavy traffic on the circuit. I
have to admit, I had expected it to be worse.”
Lance David Arnold (Porsche 911
GT3 R, Haribo Team Manthey), 6th place:
“We made the most of our good
start to make up positions. Now it’s important to have a clean run.
Let’s see where we are tomorrow morning. We laid the crucial
foundations in the first stint. Now our aim is to maintain the balance
between speed and conserving the car.”
Richard Lietz (Porsche 911 GT3
R Hybrid, Porsche Team Manthey), 7th place:
“My stint went brilliantly. The
car’s running without any problems – fuel efficiency was never this
much fun! There are loads of accidents out there and many repairs are
underway, so you are constantly on the brakes. But we’re all in the
same boat.”
Patrick Simon (Porsche 911 GT3
RS, Porsche AG), 27th place:
“Our start was so good that I
handed the car over in 18th place. It’s amazing how fast we can go with
a production vehicle and we can even match the pace of several Cup
cars. I’ve never been so relaxed climbing out of a car after 1.45
hours.”
Roland Asch (Porsche 911 GT3
RS, Porsche AG), 27th place:
“I’m simply impressed. The
standard 911 feels great. Every metre of the crazy track is fun. There
were so many accidents and spins that I’ve had to drive cautiously. But
by now everything is running smoothly.”
