Le Mans 24 Hours
Porsche
911 GT3 R Hybrid turns demonstration laps
As part of the 24
Hours of Le Mans, a race car that expressly typifies
the philosophy of “Porsche Intelligent Performance” will turn
demonstration laps: The Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid, featuring two
electric motors at the front axle each developing 60 kilowatt to
supplement the 480 horsepower normally-aspirated rear-engine. Under
braking, the 911 GT3 R Hybrid converts kinetic energy into electrical
energy and stores it in a flywheel.
Porsche works driver Marc Lieb (Germany) will pilot the 911 GT3 R
Hybrid and present it to fans around the track on Thursday evening and
Friday morning. Over the entire weekend, visitors to the circuit can
also see the vehicle up close in the paddock.
Recently at the 24 hour race on the Nürburgring, the 911 GT3 R
Hybrid turned heads. Over more than eight hours, the orange-and-white
liveried racer from Weissach led the field and impressed with its
excellent efficiency until it retired 1:45 hours before the finish with
engine damage. During the race, the vehicle demonstrated just what the
Porsche hybrid technology is capable of, even at this early stage of
development.
