Schoolgirls
worked at Stuttgart sports car manufacturer’s training center on “Girls
Day”
Porsche
Mechanic for the Day
Stuttgart.
Today, 30 schoolgirls
aged between 13 and
15 experienced at first hand how attractive technical professions in
the automotive industry can be for women. As a part of the nationwide
“Girls Day”, they visited Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart. In
the sports car manufacturer’s training workshop, the girls became
acquainted with the jobs of mechatronics technician, vehicle painter,
vehicle interior designer, and construction/industrial mechanic. Under
the guidance of Porsche training supervisors, the participants gained
their first practical experience of engine assembly, changing brake
pads, and spray-painting. At the end of the working day, every pupil
was able to bring home a product she had manufactured herself – either
a metal and leather key-ring or an airbrush picture.
“Women are just as successful
in the technical professions as their male colleagues. For years now,
Porsche has always had great expectations of the female members of the
younger generation – and we like to get to know them as soon as
possible”, says Dieter Esser, head of vocational training at Porsche.
By its participation in “Girls Day” and by other activities, the
enterprise supports initiatives that foster talent in
technically-oriented subjects while pupils are still at school.
