Investment of 200 million euros – start-up in 2011
Porsche
plans new painting plant at its headquarters in Zuffenhausen
Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart is
planning to build a new painting plant at its headquarters in
Zuffenhausen. Representatives from the Porsche construction department
today briefed the committee for the environment and technology in a
meeting of the Stuttgart municipal council on the company’s plans. The
sports car manufacturer will invest approximately 200 million euros in
the project.
The new facility is to be built
on the Dürr AG site as a direct extension of Porsche plant 1,
parallel to the embankment located there. Porsche acquired the site in
Spring this year.
The intention is to make a start on construction work
in Fall 2008, and start-up is expected for 2011. 170 vehicles a day can
be painted in the facility in a two-shift operation. The new painting
plant is designed so that it can also be run in a three-shift
operation. The plan is for the new facility to be operated in parallel
with the existing painting plant for a transition period.
Porsche AG Chief Executive Dr
Wendelin Wiedeking said: “This decision will further guarantee not only
our growth curve, but also a considerable element of the agreement on
safeguarding the site for Zuffenhausen which was entered into between
the Board and the Works Council in July 2005. For one thing, this means
that jobs are safeguarded on a long-term basis, and for another, that
the preconditions are also created for the manufacture of a premium
vehicle like the 911 in Stuttgart in the future.”
In the financial year 2006/07,
Porsche manufactured almost 39,000 911 series vehicles at its main
plant at Zuffenhausen, more than ever before in one financial year.
Representatives of Porsche will
brief the Zuffenhausen District Committee on the project today, on
Tuesday. In addition, Porsche is planning a special information event
for the residents of the Stuttgart district of Neuwirtshaus at the end
of January 2008. But one thing is already certain: the new painting
plant will reflect state-of-the-art technology and will meet all legal
requirements.
