Porsche
qualifies in 7th place at best...Lamborghini and Ferrari Take Pole

After
heavy rain the day
before, the second day at Brno began with high cloud and a drying track
for the qualifying sessions for Rounds 3 & 4 of the FIA GT3
European Championship. The two sessions ended with the second
pole position in two races for Philip Geipel in the nr24 Argo Racing
Lamborghini Gallardo LP560 and the first ever pole position for a
Ferrari 430 Scuderia, with Diego Alessi setting the fastest time in the
second session in the nr87 Chad Racing Ferrari 430 Scuderia. Giles
Vannelet placed the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR of Muehlner Motorsport in 9th
place
Round 3 Qualifying
In the first 20-minute
qualifying session the nr101 Callaway Competition Corvette of Daniel
Keilwitz set the early pace, just ahead of the nr9 Team S-Berg Racing
BMW Alpina B6 of Nikolas Mayr-Meinhof. With 6 minutes of the
session remaining Philip Geipel set the fastest lap with the nr16 Graff
Racing Corvette of Joakim Lambotte going third fastest behind the nr101
Corvette. Mayr-Meinhof, who had pitted half way through the
session, returned to the track and secured a front row starting
position just as the chequered flag came out.
Round 4 Qualifying
In
the second qualifying
session it was the nr87 Chad Racing Ferrari 430 Scuderia of Diego
Alessi was the pace setter for most of the 20 minute session. The
nr16 Graff Racing Corvette of Mike Parisy was second fastest but was
pushed to third by Frederic Makowiecki in the nr1 Hexis AMR Aston
Martin DBRS9 and then to fourth when Christian Hohenadel in the nr101
Callaway Competition Corvette Z06R went quicker than Makowiecki with
five minutes of the session remaining. Meanwhile Alessi brought
the Ferrari into the pits and was on the pitwall when the chequered
flag came out to confirm his pole position. Placed in 7th place was
Muehlner Motorsport 2nd 911 GT3 RSR driven by Keven Estre followed by
the Porsche of Prospeed driven by Marco Holzer in 9th place.
