Steiner wins at Road Atlanta Remains tied for Championship point lead Alex Job Racing driver Dino Steiner remains tied for the Platinum Cup drivers' championship point lead after winning Friday's IMSA Challenge by Michelin Round 12 race at Road Atlanta, as part of the Petit Le Mans weekend. Steiner also finished second in Thursdays' Round 11 race.   Steiner started Friday's race from the pole in the No. 15 Alex Job Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup thanks to the fast race lap (1:25.906, 106.442 mph) he set during Thursday's race, which also happened to be a new qualifying lap record. Heading into the race, Steiner trailed then Platinum Cup championship point leader Bob Faieta by two points. This meant Steiner needed to finish one spot in front of him in order to be tied heading into the season finale. And, that is what Steiner did. He held off a hard-charging Faieta by 0.863-second to record his third win of the season.   "Dino did a great job this weekend, especially in the second race," Team Owner Alex Job said. "He did what he needed to do to keep Faieta behind him and won the race. With both drivers tied for the championship lead, Dino will need to finish ahead of Faieta in both races in order to win the championship. The crew has given Dino a solid car all year long. It would be a real testament to Dino and to the entire crew for all of their hard work if Dino can bring home the championship at Laguna."   Steiner and Faieta are tied for the IMSA Challenge Platinum Cup drivers' championship point lead with 208 points. Through 12 races this season, Steiner has three wins and 11 podium finishes.   The IMSA Challenge by Michelin series heads west to the beautiful Monterey Peninsula Oct. 17-19 for the Monterey Sports Car Championships at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The IMSA Challenge season will conclude with two final races. Round 13 will be a 30 minute race, while the season finale will be a one hour and fifteen minute endurance race.
