Proton Competition wins the Carrera Cup Deutschland for the third year running

In a dramatic finale, Keagan Masters clinched the title in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland. Proton Competition also triumphed in the team standings.

It was a dramatic final weekend of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland at the Hockenheimring. Keagan Masters arrived at the historic circuit as the championship leader in the popular one-make series.

Masters finished the first race in fourth place after a strong comeback, thereby extending his lead in the overall standings. Light rain turned everything on its head on Sunday, meaning that Masters had to start from the pit lane after a tyre change during the formation laps. He was also spun around during a chaotic start. With a spectacular comeback, he fought his way up to ninth place.

Keagan Masters thus became the first South African to secure the title in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland, which is also the 26-year-old’s greatest career achievement to date. Proton Competition also won the team championship. The team from Hofkirchen in Bavaria triumphed in the championship for the fourth time, underlining their strong team performance.

“It’s a fantastic achievement that we’ve won both the drivers’ and teams’ championships! I’m delighted with Proton Competition’s great success. A huge thank you also goes to all our sponsors and partners who made this season possible. It’s been an incredible year,” said Keagan Masters after his triumph in front of 112,000 spectators at Hockenheim.

Team principal Christian Ried is delighted with the successful season: “Winning both titles is a well-deserved reward for the team after this challenging season and this action-packed finale. Keagan has proven that he is one of the best drivers in the Porsche one-make series. He has consistently scored points throughout the year and kept a cool head in the decisive race. The team also did an outstanding job, securing successes in all classes with the new car.”

Proton Competition secured further strong results on the circuit over the weekend. Debutant Wiliam Siverholm enjoyed a successful debut in the German Carrera Cup: In the first race, this year’s Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia champion finished second in the rookie classification. Gustav Bergström followed closely behind his team-mate. Guest driver Kai Pfister won the ProAm classification in the first race and followed that up with a third-place finish in the second race. Last year’s champion, Robert de Haan, also secured two strong points-scoring finishes.
