GT World Challenge Asia
Saturday’s opener saw Anthony Liu claim Pro-Am pole for Phantom Global Racing, with the Chinese driver maintaining his position at the start. Huang Ruohan was just behind in the #911 Absolute Racing car, while Origine Motorsport’s Lu Wei gained three places on the opening tour, meaning the current top three in the drivers’ standings were now in hot pursuit of each other.
However, on the restart from a Full Course Yellow later in the race, Wei spun on cold tyres which sent him into the barrier, forcing him to retire from the event. The Safety Car would come out allowing everyone to pit as Ayhancan Güven and Alessandro Ghiretti stepped into the #37 and #911 cars respectively.
The two Porsche drivers put on an excellent show battling one another throughout the remaining 20 minutes, with Güven managing to stay ahead to claim the Pro-Am victory as Ghiretti made it a Porsche 1-2 in class.
The second Absolute Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R piloted by Li Kerong and Joel Sturm was running third in Pro-Am, but an incident forced the German driver to retire in the closing stages of the event. Meanwhile, Hiroaki Nagai and Kazuto Kotaka enjoyed a clean race for Porsche Center Okazaki in the #18 machine, crossing the line fourth in Pro-Am, achieving their best finish of the season so far.
The Am category saw Ben Porter deliver an impressive lap to take pole position and also line-up eighth on the overall grid. The #51 AMAC Motorsport car was running in the top 10 with Andrew Macpherson before contact with the #22 Origine Motorsport entry, which forced both cars to retire from the race, with the latter receiving a penalty for the incident. Haziq Zairel Oh and Aaron Lim Say Joon secured their best result of the 2026 campaign, by claiming an Am second in the #20 HZO Fortis Racing by Absolute Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R.
Sunday’s event saw three Porsche entries in the top four on the grid, as Ghiretti started the race from pole position. The Frenchman lost the lead on the opening lap but settled into a good rhythm in second, with Loek Hartog just behind. Güven had a more challenging first few corners causing him to drop back, while Sturm in the #918 Absolute Racing car made several overtakes to move into eighth before a Safety Car period.
On the restart, Ghiretti and Hartog managed to build a solid gap to those behind as Sturm got as high as fifth before the pit-stops, with the Safety Car emerging for a second time shortly after. Huang sat poised in the #911 Absolute Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R and when racing action went green again, he made an excellent overtake for the lead into the first corner.
The Chinese driver was able to build a solid advantage out front and controlled the final laps to secure a second victory of the season for him and teammate Ghiretti. Wei moved into second overall but was passed in the closing stages, initially having to settle for third. However, a post-race time penalty for a competitor promoted the #11 machine into second, securing an overall 1-2 for Porsche.
Li continued Sturm’s strong pace, crossing the line sixth overall and completing a Porsche 1-2-3 in the Pro Am category. Meanwhile, Nagai and Kotaka took another Pro-Am top five finish for Porsche Center Okazaki. Phantom Global Racing’s Liu was in contention for strong points until the final minutes, when an incident saw him pick up a penalty, being classified seventh in Pro-Am.
This weekend’s results mean that Wei holds a five-point advantage over Huang and Ghiretti in the drivers’ standings heading into the season finale at the end of the month, as Liu sits fourth with just two races remaining. The Am category saw some great racing throughout the second event, with Macpherson and Porter coming out on top to clinch their second win of the season for AMAC Motorsport.
Liu Hangcheng and Wang Zhongwei bounced back from Saturday to make it a Porsche 1-2, while the #20 HZO Fortis Racing by Absolute Racing car suffered race ending damage during the event.
GT World Challenge Asia now heads to Shanghai International Circuit on 30 October – 1 November for the highly anticipated 2026 season finale.
Huang Ruohan, Absolute Racing: “This weekend saw an incredible display of teamwork as the crew worked into Friday night fixing an issue on the car. We came so close to seeing our championship challenge come to an early end but we’re now truly in the fight heading to Shanghai. A huge thanks again to the team, Alessandro and Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific for all the support.”
Alessandro Ghiretti, Absolute Racing: “I’m super happy with the results we’ve managed to achieve this weekend. The pace has been superb throughout as we finished second in Pro-Am on Saturday, before securing overall victory today. The team did an amazing job after working long into Friday night sorting an issue so it’s brilliant to be able to repay their hard work with a result like this. We’ve closed the gap at the top of the drivers’ standings and we know that it’s going to be an intense finale in Shanghai.”
Li Kerong, Absolute Racing: “It’s great to be back competing in GT World Challenge Asia this weekend. I’ve been racing in Intercontinental GT Challenge throughout the year and recently won the Independent Cup, so being here in Beijing over the National Day holiday and taking part in a street race like this was special to me. After yesterday’s incident, the team worked incredibly hard to get the car back into shape in a very short amount of time. To come away with a Pro-Am podium on my return to the series was an excellent result. A big thank you to everyone for all their support this weekend and I’m very happy that we could achieve this together.”
Joel Sturm, Absolute Racing: “It was my first weekend in GT World Challenge Asia and I really enjoyed the circuit and whole experience. Today was redemption for what happened in Race 1 as I managed to get us up into the top five before Kerong put in an excellent stint to finish the job. It was great to stand on the Pro-Am podium and hopefully I’ll be racing in the Asia-Pacific region again soon.”
Lu Wei, Origine Motorsport: “It’s great to be on the overall podium again as we showed strong pace throughout the event. Unfortunately, a small mistake cost us on Saturday, but we all worked very hard to put it right on Sunday, finishing second overall. I’ve got a five-point advantage in the Drivers’ Championship heading into the finale and I’m hopeful that we can have a good weekend in Shanghai.”
Loek Hartog, Origine Motorsport: “It was an amazing event this weekend and I’m pleased to have been a part of it. The feeling of driving at such high speed on the streets of Beijing is incredible so I really enjoyed myself. It was my first time working with Lu Wei and I can understand why he’s in the championship lead. We made the correct calls in the second race today and managed to bring home a good result. I hope to return to this venue next year!”
Andrew Macpherson, AMAC Motorsport: “We’re delighted to secure our second GT World Challenge Asia victory of the season in Beijing. We knew that we could be competitive this weekend after enjoying a strong event here last year. I’m proud of the team for ensuring we bounced back after Saturday and now we head to Shanghai with some positive momentum.”
Liu Hangcheng, Origine Motorsport: “I’m pleased with the result we achieved in the second race and we know we’re still firmly in the title battle going into the season finale as we look to give it everything to come out on top.”
Wang Zhongwei, Origine Motorsport: “We managed to stand on the Am podium during today’s event. We’ve lost our advantage at the top of the Am drivers’ standings, however, I’m confident that we can have a great weekend in Shanghai and take the fight to the very end.”
Haziq Zairel Oh, HZO Fortis Racing by Absolute Racing: “It was a strong weekend in Beijing with Aaron! We produced a great qualifying performance and followed that with our best GT World Challenge Asia result, taking second in the opener. Race 2 ended prematurely after an unfortunate incident, but we leave with our heads high. Big thanks to Aaron and the Absolute Racing team!”
Aaron Lim Say Joon, HZO Fortis Racing by Absolute Racing: “We made a big step forward from the last race as we qualified first and second in class, which was strong considering it was our first time on a street circuit. We earned our maiden GT World Challenge Asia podium on Saturday, but I unfortunately made a mistake today which meant we couldn’t continue. We’ll look to come back stronger in Shanghai for the next round.”
SRO GT Cup
Moritz Berrenberg enjoyed an action-packed and successful weekend across the four SRO GT Cup races at Beijing Street Circuit. Berrenberg took pole position for the first of two events on Saturday, with the Maxmore W&S Motorsport driver delivering an excellent lights-to-flag Am class victory.
Later that day, with the sun setting in Beijing E Town, the German continued his positive form by claiming an Am second. On Sunday, Berrenberg showed even stronger pace by securing a dominant Am-class victory and also earning third overall in the #927 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.
In the last race of the weekend, he produced his best performance by clinching a third Am-class win at the event, while also standing second on the overall podium. SRO GT Cup returns next month for the season finale on 19-22 November at the Macau Grand Prix.
Alexandre Gibot, Managing Director Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd.: “It was a very positive weekend for Porsche as we took an overall 1-2 today as well as the Am win. We enjoyed multiple podiums across the classes and we’re now in a strong position heading to the season finale in Shanghai, with three cars in contention for the Drivers’ Championship. In SRO GT Cup, Moritz Berrenberg had an excellent event, securing three Am victories and getting onto the overall podium as well. The Am-class title battle for him now looks very positive heading into the last round in Macau. Overall, it was a great event and atmosphere so a huge credit to SRO for the improvements made from the maiden visit. “Congratulations on the other side of the world to Porsche Penske for the victory at Motul Petit Le Mans and also to Bastian Buus and Ricardo Feller, who claimed the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup yesterday.”
