Strong field of participants in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2025
The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup opens its 33rd season next weekend. Once again, eight races together with Formula 1 are on the calendar of the international one-make cup with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. The season kicks off with the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, Italy, from 16 to 18 May. 23 drivers from ten nations have registered for the entire season, including Porsche Juniors Theo Oeverhaus from Germany and Alessandro Ghiretti from France.
Nine teams will be competing in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in the new season. In general, 28 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars are registered for all eight races, with five of them being manned by changing drivers. Among the permanently named participants, the Netherlands has the largest contingent with seven riders. Three nine-elevens carry the German flag. Porsche Junior Theo Oeverhaus from Osnabrück will form the driver duo at the Proton Huber Competition together with the Dutch veteran Jaap van Lagen.
"I already feel very comfortable in my new team," Oeverhaus looks ahead. "The basis is right and I'm looking forward to Imola. The route suits me. Qualifying will play a decisive role because overtaking is difficult with the enormous competition in the field – so you have to start at the front to be able to aim for a top position."
Alessandro Ghiretti, the second Porsche Junior, has remained loyal to the Schumacher CLRT team. Last season, the Frenchman finished fifth overall in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and also secured the titles in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and the Porsche Carrera Cup France. After their one-two victory in the third round of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland at Spa-Francorchamps, Ghiretti and Oeverhaus travel to the Supercup opener in Imola with a tailwind.
The same applies to Ghiretti's new teammate at Schumacher CLRT, Dutchman Flynt Schuring. The 18-year-old brother of Porsche DTM driver Morris Schuring won Saturday's race on the Ardennes rollercoaster. The newcomer to the Supercup will be coached by three-time champion Larry Ten Voorde, who has ended his active career in the Porsche one-make cups.
The two drivers from the BWT Lechner Racing team are also among the participants with ambitious goals. The 18-year-old Dutchman Robert de Haan made people sit up and take notice with two commanding victories at the opening round of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland in Imola a month ago. His French teammate Marvin Klein is last year's best-placed driver, who will be competing again this season. "Of course I want to be in contention for the title," emphasises Klein, who finished third overall in the 2024 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. But we had a good preparation during the tests in Barcelona at the end of April. We will now analyse all the data again in order to be able to compete in Imola in the best possible way. First of all, we have to be at the front in qualifying, then anything is possible in the race."
Keegan Masters is also starting its third season in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup with high ambitions. The South African, fourth overall last year, remains loyal to his Ombra Racing team: "That's positive because we're well attuned to each other. I'm looking forward to the season with great confidence, even though I have the feeling that the competition in the Supercup is increasing from year to year. I'm really looking forward to Imola, especially as it's my team's home track. We are well prepared for the opening weekend. We'll only see where we stand in qualifying. As always, the starting position could be decisive."
Ten newcomers and two new teams enrich the starting field
Ten racing drivers are contesting their first full season in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, and the one-make cup can also announce two new additions to the teams: The Spanish team of Hadeca Racing will be competing with Mikel Azcona Troyas, among others. The Spaniard has an impressive track record with title wins in the World and European Touring Car Cups.
The Target team from Italy, which is successful in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland and in touring car racing, will field two Porsche 911 GT3 Cup for the Germans Janne Stiak and Alexander Tauscher. Stiak, who comes from Lower Saxony, celebrated his 18th birthday in March and is thus the youngest among the permanently registered participants. Tauscher impressed at the official tests in Barcelona with the best time in one of the four sessions. The Bavarian travels to Imola confidently: "We were able to try a lot during the tests and found a good basic setup. The Autodromo Imola is a special track with a lot of tradition, which I personally like. I'm optimistic about the race weekend."
Another best time at the Barcelona test was set by Frenchman Mathys Jaubert, who competes alongside Britain's Aaron Mason in the French team Martinet by Almeras. Dinamic Motorsport from Italy and GP Elite will also be competing in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. The Dutch team will field no fewer than six Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars at the season opener in Imola.
In addition, eight drivers who are not permanently registered will face the regular participants in Imola. A total of 31 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars will contest a sprint race over 15 laps on the Formula 1 circuit.
"In its 33rd season in Formula 1, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup has lost none of its appeal," comments Oliver Schwab, Project Manager Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. "We are very happy about numerous newcomers and the arrival of the two new teams Target and Hadeca Racing, but also about the return of established participants. The tests in Barcelona promise a high level of competition and exciting battles. I'm convinced that we'll put on a good show for the many fans at the track and on the screens as usual."
Eight races as part of Formula 1
In 2025, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup will once again enrich the Formula 1 supporting programme at eight European Grands Prix. The season kicks off with the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Imola. The finale will take place in the Royal Park of Monza and thus also in Italy. In between, the teams will make stops on the street circuit in Monaco as well as in Barcelona (Spain), Spielberg (Austria), Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), Budapest (Hungary) and Zandvoort (Netherlands).
Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, Imola (Italy)
The racetrack, which opened in 1953, is one of the traditional circuits of Formula 1, which has been back here since 2020 after a 13-year break. The 4.909-kilometre circuit on the outskirts of Imola follows the natural course of the hilly area with inclines and descents. On the track named after the Ferrari founder and his son, the Porsche Supercup celebrated its world premiere on 25 April 1993. Until 2006, the then Grand Prix of San Marino was regularly one of the stops of the Supercup. Since 2022, Imola has once again been part of Porsche's international one-make cup with the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.
