Damage limitation in Belgium

In a challenging race, Keagan Masters secured vital points for Proton Competition in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at Spa-Francorchamps. With the first half of the season now complete, the South African sits in a strong fourth place in the overall standings.

The weekend got off to a strong start for Keagan Masters. In practice and qualifying, the driver showed good pace in his Proton Competition Porsche 911 Cup. However, a minor mistake on his fastest lap meant he could not secure a better starting position than eighth in qualifying.

In the race, Masters initially made up two places before unforeseen problems with the car slowed the fast South African down. The 26-year-old tried to make the best of his situation and still managed to secure four points by finishing twelfth. After four of eight races, Masters occupies fourth place in the drivers’ standings.

Experienced gentleman driver Kai Pfister finished the race in 26th place in the second car of the team from Hofkirchen in Bavaria. For the 50-year-old, it was another special experience to compete in front of the impressive crowds at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.

“We now need to investigate what happened to Keagan’s car during the race so that we can prevent such setbacks in future. It’s a real shame, as he had good pace before the problem and could certainly have secured a good points finish,” explains Michael Dirsch, who heads Proton Competition’s Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup programme.

The next race weekend in the fiercely contested Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup takes place at the Hungaroring on 26 July, before the series goes into its summer break.
