Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti dominates the race in Barcelona

Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti has won the third round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the Circuit de Catalunya. The Frenchman from the Schumacher CLRT team crossed the finish line after 15 laps of racing ahead of Dutchman Robert de Haan and Frenchman Marvin Klein.

Flynt Schuring, who started from pole position, had to settle for fifth place, but remained the best rookie. Porsche Junior Theo Oeverhaus remains at the top of the overall standings after ninth place. With his first win of the season in Barcelona, Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti has returned to the fight for overall victory in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. The 23-year-old Frenchman from the Schumacher CLRT team dominated the race at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona almost at will after passing his teammate Flynt Schuring shortly after the start. "At the beginning, I was able to benefit from the battles behind me and pull away a bit," Ghiretti described. That allowed me to manage my tyres and find a good rhythm. Towards the end of the race, I was able to pull away continuously and bring home the victory."

In the overall standings, Ghiretti made a big leap and is now only 9.5 points behind Theo Oeverhaus in second intermediate place. The second Porsche Junior had only started from 13th on the grid, but limited the damage with ninth place: "I made the best of my poor starting position," agreed the 20-year-old Oeverhaus. " I had a lot of tough tackles. The problem is that you get understeer behind another vehicle, which especially affects the front tires. So I drove practically the whole distance behind Alex Tauscher. We want to get more out of the coming races."

Two podium finishes for BWT Lechner Racing

The other podium places were occupied by Robert de Haan and Marvin Klein, the two BWT Lechner Racing drivers. "That was a strong result for the team," commented Monaco winner de Haan. I'm very happy, although I lost some speed in the final phase of the race. We have to analyse that. But this result was enormously important for the championship, especially after the retirement in the first race." Teammate Klein was delighted with his first points of the season: "I had a good start and was able to make up two positions. After that, I tried to attack my teammate, but unfortunately it wasn't quite enough. After the two retirements in the first two races, however, this result was particularly valuable. Now we want to take race by race and see what comes out of it in the end."

Behind Huub van Eijndhoven, who is also fourth in the championship, Flynt Schuring was the best-placed rookie in fifth: "But if you start from pole position, of course you want more," admitted the Dutchman, who, like winner Ghiretti, competes for Schumacher CLRT and is now sixth in the Supercup overall standings. " I didn't get off to an optimal start and was then a bit too optimistic when braking for the first corner. Nevertheless, I'll take the good things from this weekend: I scored a lot of points and was fast throughout the weekend. We can build on that."

Positive conclusion for the race weekend

Oliver Schwab, Project Manager of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, drew a positive conclusion from the race weekend in Barcelona: "Today's race offered everything that makes the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup so special – a tightly packed field of participants and tough but fair battles for positions with fascinating race cars. A big compliment to our Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti. He showed an extremely serene performance. In the Supercup overall standings, the leading group has moved together, which promises a lot of excitement for the coming race weekends. And of course we are pleased that all the vehicles made it through here in one piece."

Round four of the 2025 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup will take place on 29 June as part of the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring near Spielberg.
