Rookie Flynt Schuring wins qualifying in Barcelona

Pole position for Flynt Schuring in the third round of the 2025 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona: The 18-year-old Dutchman from the Schumacher CLRT team set the fastest lap in qualifying on Saturday. Next to him on the front row of the grid is his teammate, Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti. The second Porsche Junior, Theo Oeverhaus, was unlucky: the current overall leader in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup will only start the race from 13th position.

With a special tactic, Flynt Schuring has secured the best starting position for the third round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Barcelona. The rookie from the Schumacher CLRT team took to the track later than the competition and used the free track. With his best time of 1:43.784 minutes, the 18-year-old pulverized the previous qualifying record by around 3.5 seconds. Michael Ammermüller had set this in 2018 with the previous generation of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. "We decided to wait longer with the first set of tyres in order to benefit from the clear and better track," explained Schuring. That worked perfectly. The plan for tomorrow? Make a good start and don't give up the lead ...‟

Next to the Dutchman on the front row of the grid is his teammate, Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti. "Overall, it was a good qualifying," said the Frenchman. Unfortunately, the best lap time was cancelled, otherwise even more would have been possible. But starting from the front row next to your teammate is not a bad starting position."

In third and fourth place on Sunday are the Dutchmen Robert de Haan (BWT Lechner Racing) and Huub van Eijndhoven (Team GP Elite). "It was once again incredibly close," stressed Monaco winner de Haan. We still have to find some performance because I was at the absolute limit in terms of driving. We'll just try to get the maximum out of our package for tomorrow."

Theo Oeverhaus was anything but satisfied. The second Porsche Junior had originally put his nine-eleven on the front row of the grid before his lap time was cancelled for exceeding the track limits. As a result, the leader of the standings from the Proton Huber Competition team slipped to 13th on the grid and thus has a difficult starting position ahead of him for the race.

Exactly the same lap time as polesitter Schuring was achieved by Keagan Masters. However, the South African from the Ombra Racing team suffered two setbacks: First, he was relegated three places on the grid as a penalty for causing a collision at the previous race in Monaco. This would have meant that he would have started tomorrow's sprint race from fifth place. During the technical follow-up inspection, however, the ground clearance of the nine-eleven with the starting number 18 proved to be too low, so that Masters was removed from the classification. He has to start tomorrow's race from last place.

Qualifying in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup was once again extremely fiercely contested: the first 19 cars were separated by less than nine tenths of a second. This means that an exciting race is expected for Sunday. The start of the third round of the season will take place in Barcelona at 11.45 a.m. The programme includes 15 laps over a distance of 69.855 kilometres or a maximum race duration of 30 minutes plus one lap.
