Points in the manufacturers' championship for Porsche by customer team Cupra Kiro

In Saturday's race of the Shanghai E-Prix, Cupra Kiro scored points for Porsche in the manufacturers' world championship.

The customer team took 4th place with Dan Ticktum and narrowly missed out on another podium. Two weeks ago, the Briton had finished 3rd at the Tokyo E-Prix. In Shanghai, he started from 21st place and worked his way through the field in the highly efficient Porsche 99X Electric WCG3.

The two drivers of the factory-owned TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team finished outside the points. World Champion Pascal Wehrlein finished the race in 12th place. With 3rd place in qualifying, he extended his qualifying record: For the 35th time, he made it into the duels. Teammate António Félix da Costa improved by four positions in the race and crossed the finish line in 13th place.

During the race, the teams again completed a mandatory pit stop for fast charging. In the so-called Pit Boost, the Porsche 99X Electric recharged 3.85 kWh of energy – with a charging capacity of 600 kW. By comparison, the Formula E safety car, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT road-going sports car, charges with up to 320 kW. The CCS (Combined Charging System) charging system symbolises a transfer of technology to series production: the socket and plug of the 99X racing car and the electric Porsche road cars are the same. The CCS combines the option of AC charging with the option of DC charging, thus enabling gentler charging, for example at home, and powerful fast charging on the go.

omments on the Shanghai E-Prix

Florian Modlinger, Overall Project Manager Formula E: "You have to digest the result first – especially after the good pace in practice and after P3 for Pascal in qualifying. António didn't have it easy. His qualifying did not go as hoped. With 17th place on the grid, he had a lot of work ahead of him, but initially made good progress. Overall, we didn't have the pace we expected in the race. Pascal lost a few places in the early stages, which thwarted our strategy and meant that we had to use the Attack Modes early. In addition, the front tires deteriorated sharply in traffic, and the balance of the vehicle fell out the window. Now we have to analyse in detail – and get much better for the coming races. Today we weren't good enough. But we'll give everything to improve tomorrow. Congratulations to Cupra Kiro and Dan Ticktum on another good result with P4."

Pascal Wehrlein, Porsche works driver (#1): "A really strange day. In the morning I was only in 18th place in practice, in qualifying it went really well on fresh tyres with 3rd place. In the race, we then fell far behind on used tyres. We didn't have the grip and pace we expected after qualifying. We have to analyse that. Tomorrow is a new day – it might rain, so we'll have to adjust the car anyway. But we can take a lot from today because we were really fast at times. Tomorrow we'll attack again."

António Félix da Costa, Porsche works driver (#13): "That wasn't a good day. We were really strong in both practice sessions, even on P1. In qualifying, we didn't quite hit the set-up, had understeer and only finished in 17th place. In the race, things went well at first. We were in the top ten early on. But then the strategy didn't work out and we fell behind. That's frustrating. But tomorrow we have a new race. And it looks like it's raining."
