Andrew Rackstraw takes Porsche Carrera Cup GB lead to Croft

After an eight-week break, Andrew Rackstraw begins an intensive second half of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB season when he takes a 13-point Pro series lead to Croft Circuit for Rounds 7 and 8 on 2/3 August.

The 23-year old Capetonian driver has been on brilliant form this year, winning at Donington, smashing the lap record at Snetterton (and winning the Pro category in race two), qualifying on pole at Thruxton and amassing 52 points in just six races in his Rosland Gold by Century Motorsport team Porsche Carrera 911 GT3 Cup car.

The 2.1-mile Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire is known for its mix of fast straights, tight hairpins and technical chicanes – with tricky overtaking opportunities and no margin for error. Last year, Andrew qualified seventh and finished fifth in the first Porsche Carrera Cup GB race. He then set the fastest lap in the second race – a 1:19.198 (95.46mph / 153.63kph) – but came across the line in 20th position after electrical problems cut power to the engine.

The Croft race weekend is the first of six high-speed Porsche Carrera Cup GB rounds in August, with Knockhill (16/17 August) and Donington Park Grand Prix Circuit (30/31 August) following in quick succession.

“I’m really excited to get behind the wheel again after such a long break,” says Andrew. “These long breaks make me even more hungry and determined to keep up the momentum we have gained in the early part of the year. “Behind the scenes there has been a lot of work that has gone into making sure I am fitter than ever, and mentally stronger than ever. “Croft last year we had a bit of misfortune with the car. However, the pace was there and I’m confident that we have learned where my weaknesses were and have now made them my strengths! “We will leave no stone unturned for the rest of the season – so let’s bring on Croft and see what we can do!”
