Rookie Paul Cauhaupé celebrates his first Supercup victory
The sixth race of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season at Zandvoort also saw a first: Paul Cauhaupé became the fifth different winner of the season. The French rookie won ahead of his Martinet by Alméras team-mate Jaap van Lagen from the Netherlands. Porsche Junior Flynt Schuring, from the Schumacher CLRT team, crossed the finish line in third place.
Paul Cauhaupé performed the decisive overtaking manoeuvre during the third lap. Up to that point, Wouter Boerekamps had been in the lead. But the Dutchman collided with his closest rival, Jaap van Lagen, and veered off the racing line. Rookie Cauhaupé exploited the gap with clinical precision, taking the lead of the 32-strong field of Porsche 911 Cup.
The Frenchman then extended his lead even further. The 21-year-old remained unfazed, even when the race was interrupted. This was due to a car skidding off the track and damaging a barrier. Once repairs were complete, the race restarted behind the safety car. Cauhaupé defended his lead until the finish. He won with a gap of around two-and-a-half seconds over Jaap van Lagen. The Dutchman also drives for Martinet by Alméras.
Overall leader Flynt Schuring secured third place. The Porsche Junior competes for the Schumacher CLRT team. The 20-year-old thus extended the gap to his two closest rivals Robert de Haan (BWT Lechner Racing) and Theo Oeverhaus (Martinet by Alméras), who finished behind him.
Chester Kieffer (Schumacher CLRT) of Luxembourg came second in the rookie standings, retaining his lead in the championship for Supercup newcomers. Meanwhile, Britain’s Liam McNeilly (Ombra Racing) took third place on the rookie podium.
Wouter Boerekamps of Team GP Elite started from pole position. After changing a flat tyre, the Dutchman recorded the fastest lap of the race. He finished in the middle of the field. Marcus Amand, the second Porsche Junior, also had to pit following a collision. However, the Finn was unable to continue. Due to this and other incidents in the very turbulent race, the stewards were kept busy long after the chequered flag had been waved.
“In terms of variety, this season is hard to beat. Following in the footsteps of Porsche Juniors Flynt Schuring and Marcus Amand, Paul Cauhaupé has become the third driver to secure his first Supercup victory. I’m looking forward to seeing what the final two races will bring,” commented Oliver Schwab, Project Manager Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
The next round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup will take place at Zandvoort already tomorrow (Sunday, 23 August 2026). The race begins at 11:45 am, just before the Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix. Jaap van Lagen will start from pole position. This is the first time the Supercup veteran has achieved this in eleven years.
Driver comments after the race
Paul Cauhaupé (FRA/Martinet by Alméras), 1st place and winner of the rookie classification: “I got off to a bit of a slow start. That allowed Jaap van Lagen to overtake me even before the first corner. When Jaap and Wouter Boerekamps then strayed from the ideal line whilst battling it out, I seized the opportunity. Fortunately, my second start behind the safety car was perfect.”
Jaap van Lagen (NLD/Martinet by Alméras), 2nd place: “My start from third on the grid was brilliant and I managed to make up a place straight away. When it started to rain lightly, Wouter Boerekamps made a mistake. Unfortunately, my overtaking manoeuvre only partly worked – Paul Cauhaupé managed to get past both Wouter and me. Now I’ll just have to win Sunday’s race.”
Porsche Junior Flynt Schuring (NLD/Schumacher CLRT), 3rd place: “I think I was faster than Jaap van Lagen. But he defended second place skilfully. Besides, I didn’t want to take any unnecessary risks. As long as Theo Oeverhaus and Robert de Haan finish behind me, I can be satisfied: they are my closest rivals in the standings.”
