Newcomer Wouter Boerekamps wins ahead of title contender Robert de Haan

Surprise win for a newcomer, title fight wide open again: season race 14 goes down as one of the highlights in the 2025 Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland. At the Red Bull Ring, Wouter Boerekamps celebrated victory in the GP Elite Porsche 911 GT3 Cup in only his second outing in the German one-make series. The Dutchman overtook fellow countryman and teammate Huub van Eijndhoven after just a few laps and then dominated the race from the front. Van Eijndhoven had started from pole position but ultimately had to settle for third place

Robert de Haan, meanwhile, worked his way up the order after starting from ninth. By the flag, the Proton Huber Competition driver and current championship runner-up had climbed to second after 21 laps. Series leader Alessandro Ghiretti endured a difficult race, with the Porsche Junior only managing to finish 13th. Ahead of the doubleheader season finale at Hockenheim (4-5 October), the Frenchman’s lead over de Haan has been slashed to just twelve points.

“Two wins in two Porsche series within seven days – that’s just incredible,” beamed Boerekamps, who had also clinched victory the previous weekend at the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup finale in Monza. The 29-year-old had been drafted in at short notice by GP Elite as a replacement driver. “Keeping a set of fresh tyres for the race allowed me push flat out from the very first lap,” he revealed.

Teammate Huub van Eijndhoven looked set for second place until late in the race. But repeated track limits violations earned him a “penalty lap”. The enforced slowdown to 50 km/h handed fellow Dutchman de Haan an easy pass. “A one-two would have been great for the team, but at least I held onto a podium,” van Eijndhoven admitted.

Robert de Haan thrilled fans at the Formula 1 circuit in Styria with a powerhouse performance. Despite a poor qualifying that left him on row five, the 19-year-old mounted an impressive charge through the field. “Without Huub’s penalty I would probably have been third,” he conceded. “But I’ll gladly take the extra points. Now I’ll give everything at the finale to try and catch Alessandro.”

De Haan’s main challenger, Alessandro Ghiretti, suffered a tough day at the Red Bull Ring. From third on the grid, the Porsche Junior became embroiled in numerous battles and, in the stewards’ view, overstepped the mark. Three penalty laps later, he had tumbled down the order to 13th. As a result, his advantage over de Haan in the overall standings shrank from 29 points to just twelve.

Behind the podium trio, Janne Stiak (Target) from Germany, Israel’s Ariel Levi (GP Elite) and Flynt Schuring crossed the line. The 19-year-old Dutchman – Ghiretti’s teammate at Schumacher CLRT – made up an impressive 13 places and claimed the honour of being the best-placed Talent Pool driver in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland.

Another Talent Pool driver, Matheus Ferreira (Target), celebrated victory in the rookie class. The Brazilian had already achieved his best-ever Carrera Cup starting position with eighth in qualifying for the Italian squad. In the race, he outpaced Rookies’ points leader Sacha Norden (Netherlands) and Britain’s Joseph Warhurst (both Proton Huber Competition). “It feels great to be back on the top step of the podium,” said Ferreira after securing his third rookie win of the season.

In ProAm, Michael Essmann drove his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup to a class triumph. “It was a super exciting race with countless battles – we were three abreast through some corners,” said the businessman from Germany, who drives for Team75 Bernhard. Finishing second, Michael Schrey (Bonk Motorsport) successfully defended his lead in the ProAm standings. Sören Spreng (GP Elite) was classified third.

“Two action-packed races at the Red Bull Ring with some unexpected twists mean all four titles will go down to the wire at the Hockenheim finale – once again highlighting just how fiercely competitive our series is,” commented Thorsten Rückert, Project Manager of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland.

Showdown with a doubleheader finale
Alongside the titles for Drivers, ProAm and Rookies, the Teams’ championship is also still up for grabs. French outfit Schumacher CLRT currently leads ahead of Dutch squad GP Elite, setting the stage for a gripping showdown at the two final races of the 2025 Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland on 4-5 October at Hockenheim.
