Pole, P3 and victory for Porsche customer teams in Jakarta

Porsche customer team Cupra Kiro’s Dan Ticktum claimed the first ABB FIA Formula E World Championship win of his career in Saturday’s Jakarta E-Prix. The British driver drove from 5th place on the grid to take the lead in the final stages of the race. Nico Müller of the other customer team Andretti Formula E took points for Porsche as well in 3rd place. With this, Porsche now sits only 4 points behind in the manufacturers’ standings. The factory-run TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team extended its lead in the teams’ standings thanks to points for António Félix da Costa in 4th place. World Champion Pascal Wehrlein crossed the line in P11. They remain second and third in the drivers’ classification.

Three Porsche drivers finished in the top 4 with Nico Müller converting a 13th-place start to a podium finish. Da Costa had started the race from 9th position on the grid, teammate Wehrlein from 17th. In a less energy-sensitive race, making up positions was made even more difficult by a particularly filthy asphalt away from the racing line on the bumpy Jakarta street circuit.

For many laps, the race was led by Nico Müller’s Andretti teammate Jake Dennis. The 2023/2024 World Champion had taken pole position in the highly efficient Porsche 99X Electric. Towards the end of the race he suffered an issue and dropped towards the back of the field.

Comments on the Jakarta E-Prix
Florian Modlinger, Director Factory Motorsport Formula E:
“A tough race day in extreme conditions here in Jakarta. Overall, three Porsche in the top 4 is a really strong result. Congratulations to Cupra Kiro for the first victory with a package that has already earned two World Championships. Also, congratulations to Nico Müller and Andretti on P3. António finished the race in P4 and Pascal in P11 with a strong race from both of them. Pascal progressed but had some battles and couldn’t progress further. António moved up from P9 to P4 which was a good achievement. It could have been even better but qualifying didn’t go as we wanted. We showed a strong performance all weekend in wet and dry conditions. Pascal was always on it but made a mistake on his second run in quali, followed by another one in traffic that brought him a three-place penalty. That was tough because it’s so difficult to overtake here. António just missed the duels by six one-hundredths of a second. We need to work on our timings in qualifying to help more. Extending the lead in the Teams’ Championship and catching up in the Manufacturers’ Championship was our target which we achieved. Our target for Berlin is to build on this with four races to go.”

Pascal Wehrlein, Porsche factory driver (#1): “It was an eventful race. It was clear that after starting in P17 due to a poor qualifying and a penalty it was going to be tricky on a track where it’s difficult to overtake. We will rest now; there’s a bit of a break. There’s time to analyse and we will go hard in the last four races.”

António Félix da Costa, Porsche factory driver (#13): “That was a bit of a crazy day. P4 in the end means good points. We were a bit unlucky at the end with the Full Course Yellow because we had the longest Attack Mode and could have made it onto the podium, but starting ninth and finishing fourth is a good recovery. It was tricky out there with the conditions, but it was fun to race here in Jakarta. Four races to go with double-headers in Berlin and London. The fight is on!”
