Porsche Junior Laurin Heinrich wins Supercup race at Silverstone

On the Formula 1 race track in Silverstone, Porsche junior Laurin Heinrich (D/SSR Huber Racing) secured his first Supercup victory of the current season. The 20-year-old from near Würzburg prevailed against Larry ten Voorde (NL/Team GP Elite), who had started the third round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup from pole position. Briton Harry King (BWT Lechner Racing) finished third and climbed onto the podium.

The decisive scene happened after just a few seconds: Dutchman Larry ten Voorde from the GP Elite team didn't get away from pole position optimally. Laurin Heinrich, who was also starting from the front row, did not miss this opportunity - the German won the sprint to the first corner in the 375 kW (510 hp) strong Porsche 911 GT3 Cup of the SSR Huber Racing team and took the lead. Ten Voorde even had to rank behind Brit Harry King at first. The local hero from the BWT Lechner Racing team lost second position to the Dutchman on the first lap.

“My strategy was to get next to Larry as quickly as possible after the start. I knew that I would then be on the inside in the first corner and therefore on the better line – this plan worked perfectly”, Heinrich said, happy about his second Supercup victory. Ten Voorde, on the other hand, analyzed himself critically: “I clearly reacted too late at the start. Luckily I was able to counter Harry. But I didn't stand a chance against Laurin."

This also applied to the restart behind the safety car, which was made necessary by a collision in midfield during the first lap. When accelerating, Heinrich confidently maintained his lead in front of ten Voorde and then controlled the race. “Larry was faster than me in some passages, but I had an advantage in other sections. The race was more strenuous for me than it might have looked from the outside,” explained the Porsche Junior, who moved up to second place in the standings with the win.

Larry ten Voorde defended his lead in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup standings with second place. Harry King finished third. The Brit had to defend himself against his BWT Lechner Racing teammate Dylan Pereira throughout the race. “Shortly after the start I tried to overtake Larry as well as Laurin. Unfortunately, I made a mistake and Larry was able to regain second place. After that, it was all about not making a mistake in the duel with Dylan,” summarized King.

“A strong race from Porsche Junior Laurin Heinrich. He showed really good nerves in the duel with Larry ten Voorde, who after all was champion twice in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. I also really like that drivers from three different teams finished on the podium. I'm already looking forward to the next race at the Red Bull Ring, which will no doubt be just as exciting,” commented Oliver Schwab, Project Manager Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.

Bastian Buus finished fifth overall as the fastest rookie. The BWT Lechner Racing driver from Denmark fought an exciting duel with the Brit Lorcan Hanafin from the FACH AUTO TECH team throughout the entire race. Buus was finally able to squeeze past Hanafin a few meters from the finish. The winner's trophy in the ProAm classification went to the Brit Aaron Mason from the Martinet by Alméras team.

Only a week's break before the next Supercup race
The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup teams travel from Silverstone directly to the Red Bull Ring in southern Austria. The fourth round of the international one-make cup for the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup will take place next weekend (8th to 10th July 2022) as part of the Austrian Grand Prix on the Formula 1 racetrack in Styria.

Today's Red Bull Ring goes back to the Österreichring, which was opened in 1969 near Zeltweg, but politically speaking in the municipality of Spielberg. From 1970, the circuit, which was around six kilometers long at the time, was part of the Formula 1 World Championship calendar. The Österreichring was modernized in 1995 and 1996, and the name was changed to A1-Ring. After another renovation and the reopening in 2011, the track, which has since been called the Red Bull Ring, is 4.318 kilometers long.

In the past season, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup contested two races in the Alpine Republic. The later champion Larry ten Voorde (Team GP Elite) from the Netherlands won the race as part of the Grand Prix of Styria. The New Zealander Jaxon Evans (Martinet by Alméras) won the Supercup race before the Austrian Grand Prix.
