Premiere with Siverholm and Bergström as winners in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia
William Siverholm and Gustav Bergström were the drivers most talked about when the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia season debuted in Anderstorp. In Friday's qualifying they each took pole position and in Saturday's race they shared the wins, both of them first ever in the championship. Siverholm and Bergström also top the standings ahead of the second round which will be decided at the Drivecenter Arena in Fällfors on June 13-14.
Marcus Annervi, Daniel Ros, Emil Persson. That trio rightly received the most tips ahead of the premiere at Scandinavian Raceway. But it was two other drivers who came to dominate William Siverholm and Gustav Bergström.
It started with them each taking pole position in qualifying for the first time and continued with them each taking a race victory the following day.
Siverholm dominated the opening heat from first starting position. He won it clearly ahead of Annervi, Persson and Ros. Bergström finished fifth.
In the second heat, Bergström had pole position with Siverholm at his side in the first grid. The latter took command immediately and crossed the finish line in first place after 30 minutes of intense and eventful racing.
But the 19-year-old from Gråbo was not allowed to keep his second victory of the weekend. During a restart, he, as the first driver in the field, slowed down significantly and was penalized with a five-second time penalty.
Instead of a new first place, Siverholm had to settle for third. The victory instead went to Bergström and Persson was moved up from third to second place.
Siverholm was of course not happy with that decision from the competition management, but there was something else he was much happier about this weekend.
My speed in qualifying, both race starts which were great, the car which was perfect since the first lap and, of course, the victory, my first in the championship, said the Fragus Motorsport driver with satisfaction.
Finally the podium
Three years older Gustav Bergström could also look back on a successful debut competition. Friday's qualifying success was partly a tactical triumph and on Saturday he finally got to step onto the podium in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia.
Great, it just took a little time, he said, and at that point he thought he had finished second behind Siverholm.
Therefore, he added:
But you don't want to be second.
An hour later, the Stockholmer, who competes for M3G Motorsport, received the news that he had won his first race in the championship.
Satisfied Persson
Behind Siverholm and Bergström, it was Värmland's Emil Persson in Micke Kågered Racing who did the best. He followed up his third place in the first heat with a second place in the second. 37 points in his account and third place in the standings.
I'm satisfied, said Persson, admitting that he was perhaps a little passive in the second heat where he shadowed Bergström from start to finish.
But Gustav did well and at the same time I didn't want to take any unnecessary risks. When I saw both Annervi and Ros on the side of the track, I was careful to protect the points I had.
For Ros and Annervi, the opening weekend did not turn out as they had hoped. Ros did not have the best conditions after rolling his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) in qualifying, but still finished fourth in the opening heat. In the second, he was forced to pit for a tire change after a tangled situation that, among others, Annervi was involved in. Annervi was forced to retire and therefore had to go home to Halmstad with a second place in his bag.
Lion's Wreath Challenged
In the Pro Am class, reigning champion Kjelle Lejonkrans was, as expected, the sharpest in qualifying. He also won the first heat in his class and from grid three the conditions for a double obviously looked good.
But the Kumla driver got into trouble right away and instead Lejonkrans' teammate in Micke Kågered Racing, Småland's Albin Wärnelöv, was able to take the win after finishing fifth overall. After each winning and placing second, they therefore share first place going forward.
Fifth place is my best so far in the Carrera Cup and I intend to challenge Kjelle for a fight and the title, said Wärnelöv after the successful premiere.
This year's edition of the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia features many newcomers. In Anderstorp, Isabell Rustad and Wilmer Wallenstam, teammates in Fragus Motorsport, managed the best with a seventh and fourth place respectively in both heats.
Siverholm held off to first victory
The Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia has a new race winner. William Siverholm won the opening race in Anderstorp from pole position. Second was Marcus Annervi and third was Emil Persson. The victory was Siverholm's first in the championship and he based it on a good start. - I got a great start, then it was just a matter of going, he smiled after the finish.
Siverholm built up a gap of three seconds to his competitors. However, it disappeared at the same time that Ludwig Ellhage went off and the safety car was called out onto the track. At the restart, Siverholm had Marcus Annervi close behind him. But Siverholm chose to push the gas to the bottom early and it gave the desired result.
He tricked me in the restart, admitted Annervi, who swapped places with Daniel Ros several times in the race.
When Annervi passed Ros for the last time, Emil Persson took the opportunity to follow and thus secured third place. Ros, who crashed during Friday's qualifying, took the checkered flag in fourth.
Behind the top quartet, Gustav Bergström finished fifth, one place ahead of Pro Am winner Kjelle Lejonkrans, who in turn had Isabell Rustad and Gustav Krogh closest behind him across the finish line. Albin Wärnelöv (second in Pro Am) and Theo Jernberg completed the top ten.
