Successful start to Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand sees victories and podium success in Thailand Super Series opener

The opening round of the 2024 Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand kicked off in Buriram (3-5 May), with Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific teams and drivers enjoying a successful weekend, taking overall Thailand Super Series podiums and class victories.

The #10 Fire Monkey Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) of Simon Chan clinched second in GTM qualifying for Race 1 at the Chang International Circuit, but the car dropped back in the race, finishing sixth and one place behind the #17 AAS Motorsport duo of Nattachak Hanjitkasem and Kmik Karnasuta.

Starting in fifth for Race 2, Chan was able to make superb progress throughout Sunday’s contest to claim third, marking his second TSS podium at the Thai venue. Hanjitkasem and Karnasuta matched their result on Saturday on board their Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992).

In the GT4 category, AAS Motorsport’s Kantadhee Kusiri stormed to a double pole position, qualifying 1.706s ahead of his closest challenger in the first session. Driving the #18 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, he held onto the lead through the opening stages, but lost out during the pit stops and finished second. The 2W Zoomies duo of Warren Adulayavichitr and Prakhun Phornprapha came home third, taking victory in the GT4 Am class, with B-Quik Absolute Racing’s Erwin de Smit and Henk Hiks just behind in fourth.

In Race 2 though Kusiri secured a dominant victory, with Adulayavichitr and Phornprapha following them home in second on board the #95 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport. De Smit and Hiks completed the podium places to round out the weekend with a Porsche 1-2-3 in Thailand.

The Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand entries will be back in action at the next Thailand Super Series round, which takes place in Bangsaen on 3-7 July.

Alexandre Gibot, Managing Director Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd.: “It was a very positive start to the 2024 Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand in Buriram with our customers competing in both the GTM and GT4 Classes, run in the Thailand Super Series. Congratulations first to all three of our GT4 entries, who completed a superb all-Porsche podium in Race 2, a fantastic result for the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport RS after AAS Motorsport’s double pole position and second-place finish on Saturday. It was a promising weekend also for Simon Chan and the Fire Monkey Motorsport squad, who started their campaign with a podium on Sunday. We now look forward to the race in Bangsaen, which will see Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and Sprint Trophy Thailand compete together for the first time since 2019.”
