Superior victory and championship lead for Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti
Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti has won the sixth race of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland season at Zandvoort in the Netherlands. After a fifth place the day before, the driver from the Schumacher CLRT team took the lead in the one-make cup with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.
In second place, his French compatriot Marvin Klein achieved his best result of the season so far. Third position was secured by Janne Stiak from Lower Saxony, the winner of Saturday's race.
Heavy rain over the Dutch North Sea coast caused a lot of water at the Circuit Zandvoort. For the first time in the current Carrera Cup season, the drivers had to start with treaded tyres. On a track that was initially wet but dried out by the minute, a thrilling sprint race developed that was characterised by numerous overtaking manoeuvres even in the leading group. Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti, who had secured pole position, lost a few positions in the first few metres, just like Robert de Haan, who also started from the front row.
Ariel Levi initially took the lead ahead of Stiak. The Israelis from the GP Elite team and the German driving for Target were able to defend their positions even after two restarts due to safety car phases. While at the same time championship leader Robert de Haan fell further and further back, pole position man Ghiretti kept in touch with the leading duo. In the eighth lap, he improved from fourth to second place. Three laps later, the Porsche Junior had taken the lead. By the finish, he was able to extend his lead to more than six seconds and take his second victory of the season. "The set-up of my 911 GT3 Cup was a perfect fit for these mixed conditions," said the Frenchman in praise of his race engineer and mechanics.
Marvin Klein crowned a strong performance with second place. The second Frenchman in the international field of participants in the German Carrera Cup after Ghiretti had started the race from eighth position. With skilful overtaking manoeuvres, the driver from the Proton Huber Competition team made up place after place. A few minutes before crossing the finish line, he also overtook Levi and Stiak – only Ghiretti was already too far ahead of him at this point. "Such a catch-up race only succeeds in such demanding conditions. In addition, my car was awesome today, I could attack at any time," Klein beamed.
For Stiak, Saturday's winner, Sunday's race turned into a rollercoaster ride. "My start was great. In between, I was even in the lead for a few meters. But then I braked and had to swerve through a gravel trap. In the end, I was able to improve back to third place," said the 18-year-old, who competes for the Italian team Target.
Behind Levi, two Dutchmen crossed the finish line. Kas Haverkort from the GP Elite team saw the checkered flag in fifth place. With sixth position, Senna van Soelen secured the success of the best-placed driver from the talent pool of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland. The 19-year-old drives for Team75 Bernhard, the team of Porsche brand ambassador and two-time Le Mans winner Timo Bernhard.
The class of Carrera Cup newcomers experienced two premieres: a new winner and, for the first time, a female driver on the rookie podium. Talent Pool youngster Joseph Warhurst accepted the trophy for first place. "These were typical British conditions, perfect for me," said the Englishman from the Proton Huber Competition team. Emely de Heus also achieved her best result of the season so far. The Dutchwoman, who competes for ID Racing and is the only woman in the field of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland, secured third place in the rookie classification. Although he did not finish, Sacha Norden (Proton Huber Competition) remains the leader of the standings.
The second ProAm winner's trophy now expands Michael Schrey's trophy collection. "I saved my tyres in the early stages – exactly the right tactic. When the track dried out, I was able to overtake one competitor after another," revealed the man from Osnabrück, who takes the wheel of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup for Bonk Motorsport. Second place went to Michael Eschmann (Team75 Bernhard), while Ahmad Alshehab (a-workx by Porsche Paderborn) defended his lead in the standings with third place.
"At Zandvoort, the spectators once again experienced motorsport at its best: both races of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland offered pure action in practically all positions – that's exactly how a one-make cup should be. Congratulations to the winners Janne Stiak and Alessandro Ghiretti. The top of the standings is now even closer together," commented Thorsten Rückert, Project Manager Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland.
Next round at the Norisring
From 4 to 6 July 2025, the next highlight is on the agenda for the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland: For the first time since 2019, the one-make cup will be back at the Norisring. The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup will contest the seventh and eighth races of the season on the tradition-steeped street circuit in Nuremberg.
