Black Sheep Racing Opens Porsche SprintChallenge USA West Season with Victory

Black Sheep Racing kicked off the Porsche Sprint Challenge USA West by Yokohama season in strong fashion this past weekend at APEX Motor Club in Arizona, delivering a standout performance across both GT3 Masters and GT3 Pro/Am classes.

In the GT3 Masters category, Laura Ely set the tone early by securing pole position in qualifying. Despite a challenging opening race that tested both patience and resilience, Ely fought through adversity to bring the car home with a solid third-place finish in class. Race two showcased a complete turnaround, as Ely started third and expertly worked her way through traffic to claim a well-earned class victory, marking a high note to open the season.

“I’m incredibly proud of how this weekend unfolded,” explained Ely. “Race one didn’t go exactly how we planned, but we stayed focused, resilient, and came back stronger in race two. Starting the season with a win is huge for our team and a testament to the work everyone put in leading up to APEX.”

Teammate Dr. David Fabi also delivered a consistent performance in the GT3 Pro/Am class during his first race weekend of the season. Dr. Fabi started third in class for race one and maintained position to be classified third. In race two, he once again rolled off third, ultimately finishing fourth in class after a competitive and tightly contested race.

As both team owner and driver, Ely emphasized the importance of the weekend’s results.
“This was a great first step for Black Sheep Racing this season. Both cars showed strong pace, and it’s exciting to see that effort translate into results right out of the gate.”

With the season opener complete, Black Sheep Racing will now turn its attention to round two of the Porsche Sprint Challenge USA West Championship, set for Sonoma Raceway over the April 10-12 weekend.
