Bradshaw and Marshall fight back on home turf

Porsche Sprint Challenge GB arrived at Oulton Park’s Island circuit with battles raging in every category. Joe Marshall (Team Parker Racing) from nearby Crewe in Cheshire took victory in the first race, after Tom Bradshaw (Toro Verde GT) from Bolton in Greater Manchester received a penalty. It was redemption for Bradshaw in Rounds Eight and Nine with two lights-to-flag victories at his home circuit.

Jason Baker (Tuthill UK) from Bristol impressed on his RS Am debut, taking category victory in the weekend’s opening race, while Oliver Meadows (Team Parker Racing) from Marston in Warwickshire won Rounds Eight and Round Nine. Lydia Walmsley (Graves Motorsport) from Kesgrave in Suffolk, and Jonathan Moore (Toro Verde GT) from Barnsley in South Yorkshire, enjoyed wins in Clubsport Pro.

Novice Charlie Tuthill (Tuthill UK) from Wardington in Oxfordshire won his first ever circuit race, taking the overall Clubsport win, and Clubsport Am category plaudits in Round Seven and Round Nine. Meanwhile, Hannah Chapman (Xentek Motorsport) won Round Eight.

Bradshaw and Marshall enjoy home advantage in RS Pro
Bradshaw took pole position in a close qualifying session – the top four were separated by just 0.035 seconds for the weekend’s opening race. Bradshaw led into the first corner at the start of Round Seven, which began in dry conditions. Samuel Harvey (Xentek Motorsport) from Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands stayed second, and Jacob Tofts (Duckhams Yuasa Racing by Graves Motorsport) from Hatfield Heath in Essex successfully defended third place from Toby Trice (Clean Racing) from Deal in Kent.

At the midpoint of the race, rain began to fall. Marshall advanced up the order, passing the cars of Dan Zelos (Graves Motorsport) from Dereham in Norfolk, Ben Mulryan (Toro Verde GT) from London and Trice, to snatch fourth. Marshall continued his progress on the last lap – he grabbed second as Harvey and Tofts were delayed following contact. Bradshaw took the chequered flag first, followed home by Marshall and Tofts. After the race Bradshaw was handed a 10-second penalty for a False Start, this promoted Marshall to victory, Tofts to second and Trice to third on the amended results. Tofts was penalised for contact with Harvey.

Bradshaw led at the start of the second race, with Harvey and Tofts tucking in behind. Marshall was on the move again – having started in seventh he was soon challenging Trice for fourth. Just before the midpoint of the race, Trice slipped down the order to ninth, and Marshall moved up to complete his run. In the latter stages, Mulryan and Zelos became engaged in a close fight for fifth. Zelos tried the outside line at Old Hall Corner but to no avail, and shortly afterwards Mulryan received a five-second penalty for track limits – this put Zelos ahead on corrected time. Bradshaw took his third victory of the season, and it was a maiden overall podium for Harvey, with Tofts alongside in third.

In the final encounter, Bradshaw made another good start to lead into the first corner, Harvey stayed second with Tofts in third. Just behind, Trice moved up two places to sixth, and he soon set after Zelos in his hunt for fifth. With 10 minutes remaining, Mulryan overtook Oliver Cottam (Duckhams Yuasa Racing by Graves Motorsport) from Bridgnorth in Shropshire at the hairpin, however, the latter was one of several drivers to be penalised for track limits, relegating him down the order on corrected time. In the dying moments of the race, Trice finally made a move stick on Zelos at the first corner to grab fifth. Bradshaw took his second win of the weekend, Harvey finished second, with Tofts completing the overall podium.

A new winner in RS Am
Matthew Kyle-Henney (Clean Racing) from Winchester in Hampshire took category pole position for the weekend’s first and second races. Round Seven began in dry conditions with wet weather arriving halfway through. Kyle-Henney initially led Meadows and Baker, the latter having switched from a Clubsport campaign for the Oulton Park weekend. In the slippery conditions, Meadows and Kyle-Henney fell backwards as Baker adopted the RS Am lead, followed by Reece Somerfield (Breakell Racing) from Walsall in the West Midlands. Baker took a maiden category win, joined on the podium by Somerfield and Kyle-Henney.

Kyle-Henney slipped back at the start of Round Eight as Meadows adopted the category lead; Kyle-Henney was now second with Baker running in third. Dan Lewis (Race Car Consultants) from Basildon in Essex soon received a 10-second penalty for a False Start, demoting him down the order, and Baker received the same shortly afterwards. The order was now Meadows from Kyle-Henney and Aimee Watts (Clean Racing) from Marden in Kent. However, when the latter received a penalty for track limits, Dean Burden (LFP Motorsport) from Grantham in Lincolnshire assumed the final podium place on corrected time. Meadows, Kyle-Henney and Burden formed the second RS Am podium of the day.

Meadows led the final race early on as Kyle-Henney slipped down the running order and Somerfield advanced. Watts was one of two drivers to receive a penalty for a False Start, and later she would make her retirement to the pit lane. Kyle-Henney soon began a storming recovery drive. He passed Cottam and with eight minutes to go he had recovered to second and was closing on category leader. On the final lap of the race, he mounted a successful pass at the hairpin to snatch an impressive category victory on the road, however, a post-race penalty handed Meadows victory.

Moore and Walmsley win in Clubsport Pro
Moore was the fastest Clubsport Pro category driver in qualifying, and he led at the start of Round Seven with Walmsley giving chase. When the dry weather gave way to rain halfway through the weekend’s first race, Moore left the circuit before rejoining. This allowed Walmsley to take the category lead, where she stayed to the flag. Walmsley got ahead of Moore at the start of Round Eight, but Moore was able to overtake before the race distance reached halfway, and that is how the order stayed to the flag – Moore enjoyed his sixth category win of the season. And it was a repeat for Moore in Round Nine, taking victory over Walmsley.

Tuthill wins first ever race in Clubsport Am
Chapman had the measure of her rivals in qualifying and led at the start of the weekend's first race. When the rain arrived, newcomer Tuthill, taking part in his first ever circuit race, advanced up the order. Tuthill got ahead of Porter and then Chapman, and on the final lap he passed Clubsport Pro category racer Walmsley on the outside line through Old Hall Corner. Tuthill stood on the top of the Clubsport Am podium, and returned to the steps to head the overall Clubsport podium on a stunning debut.

Chapman led Tuthill from Porter at the start of Round Eight. In the closing stages of the race Porter closed on Tuthill, but the order remained the same, with Chapman taking her fifth win of the season. Tuthill was ahead at the start of Round Nine with Chapman in second and Porter in third. Chapman attacked Tuthill for the category lead in the closing stages of the race, but she received a penalty for track limits which adjusted the running order on corrected time. Tuthill survived a last-lap attack from Porter to take another category victory; Porter crossed the line in second with Chapman in third.
