Pascal Wehrlein won Saturday's race of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in London and took the lead in the drivers' standings. The Porsche works driver celebrated his third victory of the season. Jake Dennis from the Andretti Formula E customer team finished in 2nd place and is five points behind Wehrlein ahead of the final race of the season. Nico Müller finished eleventh in qualifying after Porsche's double lead.

Wehrlein started the 39-lap race from pole position. He collected the most laps in the lead and crossed the finish line with a 5.7-second lead. The German only gave up the lead when he made his pit stop for fast charging during a full-course yellow phase. Müller had completed his Pit Boost earlier. When other riders stopped during neutralisation, the Swiss fell back.

Even before the race, the Porsche Formula E Team achieved a premiere in Formula E: Wehrlein and Müller not only clinched positions 1 and 2 in the duel phase, thus securing the front row of the grid for the works team. Both had previously completed the group stage as the fastest. For Wehrlein, it was the fourth pole position of the season. For this he received three additional world championship points. A total of four Porsche cars qualified among the top five.

On Saturday, the Porsche Formula E Team reduced the gap in the teams' standings to Jaguar TCS Racing to five points. In the drivers' standings, Wehrlein now leads ahead of Dennis. This means that two Porsche drivers are at the top of the standings before the finale.

The factory-owned Porsche 99X Electric will be on the grid in London with a historic design. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG is thus celebrating 75 years of motorsport. The Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer had already successfully defended the manufacturers' title in Formula E at the previous race in Tokyo.

Racing for Charity

Under the motto "Racing for Charity", Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG is sending a strong social signal in the current Formula E season and supporting seriously ill children worldwide. For every race lap of the two factory-owned Porsche 99X Electrics, the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer will donate 400 euros to the non-profit organisations Kinderherzen retten e.V., Interplast Germany e.V. and the Ferry-Porsche-Stiftung. After Pascal Wehrlein and Nico Müller completed the maximum number of race laps at the 16th race of the season in London, the donation amount stands at 421,200 euros.

Comments on the London E-Prix

Florian Modlinger, Overall Project Manager Formula E: "That was a great first race here in London. In qualifying, we occupied the front row of the grid with Pascal and Nico, in the early stages both led the race and in the end Pascal took the win. Unfortunately, Nico was one of those riders who completed their pit boost early – others benefited from the full-course yellow phase a little later. That's why he only fought for the back of the points in the end. Congratulations to our customer team Andretti and Jake Dennis on 2nd place. Overall, it was a great team result and a great success for everyone involved. Halfway through: Pascal now leads the drivers' standings by five points. In the team standings, we have reduced the deficit from 14 to five points. The car is fast and tomorrow we'll give it our all again."

Pascal Wehrlein, Porsche works driver (#94): "I'm very happy with the day. Up to this point, we have done a perfect job. We were competitive in practice and also in qualifying. In the race, it was bad luck for Nico that the full-course yellow phase came at the wrong time for him. Otherwise, I think we could have clinched a one-two. Half of the weekend is done. Now we're focusing on tomorrow and we'll give it our all."

Nico Müller, Porsche works driver (#51): "That was a very action-packed race. I think we delivered perfectly on both sides of the garage. I'm very happy about Pascal's victory. Before tomorrow's race, everything is open in both world championship classifications. Unfortunately, I was unlucky with the yellow phases that came during my pit boost and during my attack mode activation. That's a bit frustrating. But I think we did everything right today. The focus now is on delivering the same tomorrow and scoring enough points to win both world titles."
