Double pole positions – now Siverholm has started the hunt for Ros
With double qualifying wins at Gelleråsen Arena, William Siverholm began the hunt for championship-leading teammate Daniel Ros on Friday. "This was a very good start to that chase," said the 20-year-old, who is in pole position in both races on Saturday. From there, his chances of victory are great. From pole, 63 percent of all races in the championship have been won in recent seasons.
William Siverholm was both stable and fast when the qualification for the classic Kanonloppet was decided at Gelleråsen Arena on Friday. The Fragus Motorsport driver with start number two on the car started by being fastest in Q1 and repeated that feat in Q2.
"Q2 was mostly enjoyable considering that it started to rain. On my fastest lap the rain increased, but I just had to bite the bullet and hope that it would go the way.
And it did. Siverholm also had the margins on his side in both qualifiers. In Q1 he was 61 thousandths ahead of Daniel Ros, in Q2 he beat second-placed Gustav Bergström by 58 thousandths.
For his double qualifying triumphs, William Siverholm gets two bonus points, which means that from his second place in the table he is now eleven points behind Ros.
If Siverholm wins the double on Saturday – and takes both bonus points for fastest lap – he will actually overtake his teammate and the reigning champion.
"This was a good step on the way, but now it's important to do well tomorrow as well," he says.
Siverholm has won races from pole position before in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia. He may well do it again. The statistics give him great chances. 19 of the last 30 races in the championship – the 2024, 2025 and early 2026 seasons – have been won from pole position.
Daniel Ros qualified as second and third. The same placings, but reversed, were achieved for the championship trio Gustav Bergström.
"I'm happy – second and third is good," Ros said.
But it could have been better.
"In Q1 I caught up with a few cars, had to stop and let go of a small gap. Therefore, my best lap came only on the seventh lap, which was not optimal. In Q2 I thought there will be more rain so I push immediately. With hindsight, I should have warmed the tires one more turn, the front tires were not there.
Gustav Bergström was also relatively satisfied with his qualifying effort, even though he had obviously had the thousandths on his side in Q2.
"The qualification was not fantastic, but fully approved. The car was good but there was a little bit more in it, especially in Q1," said Bergström.
Theo Jernberg accounted for his best qualifying so far in his Porsche Carrera Cup career by finishing fourth and fifth. The same placement result was achieved by home driver Emil Persson.
"I had some problems during the tests, but for the qualifiers the team managed to do it," said a satisfied Jernberg.
Marcus Annervi was not as happy, whose qualifying was completely ruined due to brake problems. With two jumbo places, a real challenge awaits him on Saturday.
Behind the above-mentioned Siverholm, Ros, Bergström, Jernberg and Persson, Gustav Krogh was booked for two sixth places.
Double seventh was Albin Wärnelöv, who was thus the fastest of the drivers in the Pro Am class. There, Per Anderson was second and Prince Carl Philip third.
Isabell Rustad has continued to have a tough time and had to settle for the tenth best time in both qualifiers.
