Five Porsche 911 GT3 R to tackle legendary Macau Grand Prix
Porsche’s six entries are all set to take on the famous Guia Circuit this weekend at the 72nd Macau Grand Prix, with both GT3 and GT4 cars in action. Meanwhile, Super Taikyu Series brings its 2025 campaign to an end at Fuji Speedway, with seven x seven Racing targeting title glory.
FIA GT World Cup
Five Porsche 911 GT3 R will enter the FIA GT World Cup event to fight for overall glory. Having secured a double top-five finish at last year’s race, Absolute Racing returns with Belgian duo Laurens Vanthoor and Alessio Picariello.
Vanthoor, a previous winner of this race in 2016, competed for the squad in September’s Suzuka 1000km, where he helped the team earn second, to add to his successes at Rolex 24 at Daytona and Sebring 12 Hours in 2025. Meanwhile, Picariello has enjoyed another strong season behind the wheel, becoming GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup champion, while also showing his speed by taking victory at Mandalika International Circuit in GT World Challenge Asia.
Following their debut at Macau in 2024, Schumacher CLRT is back for a second visit to the Guia Circuit, this time with two cars. Laurin Heinrich makes his second appearance at the event with the team, which will see him look to round off a successful year of racing, which has included podiums across IMSA SportsCar Championship, GT World Challenge Asia, GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup and Thailand Super Series.
In the second Schumacher CLRT car is Ayhancan Güven, who makes his race debut in Macau. The Turkish driver, who came out on top in a dramatic last-lap Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters title battle, will aim to be on the pace from the off.
The final GT3 entry sees Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Selected Driver Dorian Boccolacci also make his maiden GT appearance at the event, driving for Phantom Global Racing. Boccolacci scored four GT World Challenge Asia podiums with the Chinese outfit across the 2025 campaign, along with outings in Nürburgring Langstrecken Serie, Nürburgring 24 Hours, Super GT and Thailand Super Series. More recently, Boccolacci experienced his first taste of hypercar machinery when he tested the Porsche 963 LMDh of Proton Competition at the FIA WEC Rookie Test in Bahrain.
Meanwhile, the inaugural SRO GT Cup campaign comes to a close in Macau in the Greater Bay Area GT Cup. The already-crowned Am champion Moritz Berrenberg looks to end a superb season for Maxmore W&S
Motorsport in the #83 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport. The German driver has won four of the six races in class and holds a 50-point lead in the standings ahead of his first appearance in Macau.
The 6.12-kilometre Guia Circuit is one of the most iconic in world motorsport, with its narrow parts and tight corners mixed with long straights and fast, flowing sections. The layout has remained unmodified since 1957, with the narrowest part of the circuit located at the Melco Hairpin, where the track is just seven metres wide. Since its founding in 2017, Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific has a storied history at Macau, supporting customers every year that the race has run.
Free Practice 1 and 2 kick off the weekend on Thursday, ahead of Qualifying at 15:40 local time (UTC +8). The 12-lap Qualifying Race begins at 14:35 on Saturday, ahead of the 16-lap FIA GT World Cup at 12:35 on Sunday.
Alessio Picariello, Absolute Racing: “I’m delighted to be back in Macau for the third year running with Absolute Racing! It’s one of the best weekends on the calendar and we’ve got an awesome livery on our Porsche 911 GT3 R. I’m looking forward to being out on-track and will aim for another strong result with the squad.”
Laurens Vanthoor, Absolute Racing: “I’m pleased to be in Macau once again and competing with Absolute Racing for a second consecutive year, as we look to build on our top five finish from 2024. Macau is such a special event with an amazing atmosphere so we’re aiming to fight for the victory.”
Ayhancan Güven, Schumacher CLRT: “I’m super excited to make my debut on the streets of Macau! I can’t wait to get my first laps in around the Guia Circuit as it’s such an iconic track. The weekend is going to be a big challenge and I know how difficult it can be around here, but I feel like I’ve done a good amount of preparation work with the team to have a strong event.”
Laurin Heinrich, Schumacher CLRT: “It’s amazing to be returning to Macau with Schumacher CLRT after competing together in 2024. We’ll look to build on what we did last time and this year it’s also great to have a second car entered, so we can rely on more data when it comes to setting up the car. We’re hopeful that we can be fighting towards the sharp end of the field.”
Dorian Boccolacci, Phantom Global Racing: “I’m happy to be back in Macau for my debut at the FIA GT World Cup, 10 years after previously racing in the Macau Grand Prix. It’s great to be driving for Phantom Global Racing again, after competing with the squad in GT World Challenge Asia and Suzuka 1000km already in 2025. It’s always such a pleasure and honour to represent the team and Porsche at such an iconic event. I’ll need to get up to speed and learn the track quickly as it’ll be very different in the Porsche 911 GT3 R. As always, I’ll do my best to maximise our performance and deliver the best result possible.”
Super Taikyu Series
The 2025 Super Taikyu Series comes to an end this weekend at Fuji Speedway, with three Porsche entries split across three separate classes taking to the track.
Following the team’s victory at Okayama International Circuit last time out, seven x seven Racing are eyeing title glory in the ST-X category. A fourth win of the campaign will be enough for the outfit to take top spot, following previous success in the opening two rounds of the season at Mobility Resort Motegi and Suzuka Circuit. The trio of Bankcy, Kiyoto Fujinami and Taichi Watarai return for the all-important four-hour race.
In the ST-Z class, Porsche Team EBI will be hoping to end their season on a high. Having taken podium finishes at both Suzuka and Fuji Speedway in the 24-hour event, the squad fields Shota Kitazono, Rintaro Kubo, Ryoma Henzan and Naoya Yamano as it looks to improve on its current standing of fifth in the #22 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.
Finally, D’station Racing brings their season to a close in the ST-1 class. The team currently holds a 12.5 point lead heading to Fuji, following victories in each of the last three events. At the wheel of the #47 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup will be Kenji Hama, Tatsuya Hoshino, Tetsuya Tanaka and Taiga Kabaki.
Qualifying for the season finale begins at 13:00 local time (UTC+9) on Saturday, while the race gets underway at 13:15 on Sunday.
Alexandre Gibot, Managing Director Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd.: “We’re looking forward to returning to Macau with another star-studded line-up in 2025. It’s one of the most iconic and prestigious races in motorsport and we’ve got a storied history in Macau, supporting customers there since 2017. With three highly experienced teams and five excellent drivers, we’re hopeful that we can achieve a strong result and be fighting at the sharp end of the grid. Additionally, we’ve got recently crowned SRO GT Cup Am-class champion Moritz Berrenberg aiming for glory in the Greater Bay Area GT Cup (GT4). Away from Macau, three Porsche entries will be looking to finish the 2025 Super Taikyu season on a high at Fuji Speedway, with seven x seven Racing still in contention for the overall crown. It’s going to be another busy weekend of racing, and we’re excited to support all our teams and drivers.
