Now the title hunt begins in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia

Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia traditionally begins this year's racing season with premiere races at Ring Knutstorp outside Helsingborg 7-8 May. Scandinavia's leading racing championships are decided as before with 14 races at 6 race weekends.

Defending champion Lukas Sundahl is the first driver to win the championship three times in a row (2018, 2019, 2020). This year, the Smålander is betting harder than ever and has his sights set on another champion title. A new record that would make him historic as the only driver with four titles.

Among those who are happy to put an end to Sundahl's championship plans are last year's silver and bronze medalists Pontus Fredricsson and Edvin Hellsten, as well as the young talents in the Driver Development Programme (DDP). Hampus Ericsson and Hugo Andersson are highly interesting after having just missed out on the medal places in the 2020 season. DDP also receives an interesting new addition in the form of Patrick Rundquist.

Porsche Sweden's guest driver program is one of the most popular features in the series with internationally merited elite drivers challenging the regular starting field. To further spearhead racing, from this year onwards the guest drivers are an official part of the championship. The competitors in Porsche Sweden's famous guest car with the starting number 911 will thus not only fight for places but drive for points in the driver and team championship.

Under the current plan, most of this year's guest appearances will be made by drivers with experience from Formula One and Indycar, the world's highest-rated racing championships. It is already clear that the diverse Swedish champion Fredrik Ekblom is running the season premiere. Ekblom has a long list of international credentials, including driver's stakes for racing legend A.J. Foyt in Indycar.

"For the 18th time, it's time for a safe spring sign, the season premiere of Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia. With an increasing interest in the series, we are more than ever looking forward to the premiere," says Raine Wermelin, Director, Porsche Sweden. It will be exciting to follow all the talents who now want to challenge Lukas Sundahl for the championship in 2021.

One of the big news for 2021 is undoubtedly porsche sprint challenge scandinavia. A new official support class for Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia that will run on the same tracks during five of the main class's race weekends.

"Porsche Sprint Challenge Scandinavia is an ambitious investment in the regeneration of Swedish racing and a result of our passion for motorsport," wermelin continues. A professionally built support class during the Carrera Cup that is open to both advanced enthusiasts and young talents on the rise in their careers.

Continued restrictions due to the pandemic mean that Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia will continue to run without an audience until further notice. The current situation with closed borders also means that a number of Norwegian carriages are missing from the two classes during the first race weekend of the year. Nevertheless, about 14 cars are expected in the Carrera Cup and 22 cars in the Sprint Challenge during the premiere.

Experience the excitement of Scandinavia's leading racing championships. All races in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia are broadcast on Viaplay and V Sport Motor. News and information are published continuously on carreracup.se and in the championship's social channels.
