Porsche poised for new Carrera Cup GB season

The new season of Porsche Carrera Cup GB gets underway on the weekend of 27/28 April at Donington Park. The Leicestershire circuit hosted the championship Launch Day on 9 April. Drivers and teams took part in a full day of activities, with photography and video assets captured by Porsche for use throughout the season. A test session provided an opportunity for drivers to get on track. Following the successful Launch Day, the Porsche paddock travelled to Brands Hatch in Kent for a second supported test.

The fastest single-marque GT racing championship in the UK is now ready to enter its 22nd season, a full calendar of 16 races will take place across eight weekends. The championship rejoins its traditional position as part of the TOCA package, racing in support of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC). A packed grid of 24 drivers includes former W Series racer, Abbie Eaton, alongside five previous BTCC drivers and new Junior – James Wallis.

Continuing its successful format, drivers in three categories – Pro, Pro-Am and Am – will compete at the wheel of the 911 GT3 Cup. Each weekend consists of two practice sessions, a qualifying session and two races, with the second race featuring a reverse grid, ramping up the excitement further still. Similar regulations and a continuation of 2023’s points structure ensure consistency. As in previous years, free terrestrial television coverage will be broadcast to a huge audience on ITV.

Turning to the virtual world, the penultimate weekend of the RAFA Racing Club Porsche Esports Carrera Cup GB championship took place at a digital Donington Park on 14 April. Sebastian Job provisionally secured Pro category championship glory with one weekend to spare. The Oracle Red Bull Sim Racing star was joined in his celebrations by provisional Am category champion, Luke Pennington. The final two races of the season take place on the longer Grand Prix circuit at Brands Hatch on 5 May.

Finally, Porsche Motorsport GB kick-started a new agreement with Podium Coffee, its hospitality partner for Porsche Carrera Cup GB and Sprint Challenge GB throughout 2024. The roastery signalled the beginning of its tenure with a themed ‘Cars & Coffee’ Breakfast Club meeting on 6 April, held at its Podium Café driving destination in Newbury, West Berkshire.

A special display featuring the 911 GT3 Cup, and the new 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, was bolstered by an appearance from this season’s 911 Carrera GTS Safety Car. The event marked one of the first official Porsche engagements for Carrera Cup GB 2024 / 2025 Junior James Wallis, who succeeds 2023 champion Adam Smalley in the role. In an interview in front of a live audience, James provided insight into his motorsport journey, his new role with Porsche and the hierarchy of Porsche Motorsport activities around the world.
