Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland is ready for Tarzan and Hugenholtz

After Imola in Italy and Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland will once again be a guest on a Formula 1 circuit on the third race weekend of the season. The Circuit Zandvoort is setting the stage for the fifth and sixth races of the one-make cup season with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

On the dune circuit on the Dutch North Sea coast, local hero Robert de Haan competes as the leader of the standings.

"I love the Circuit Zandvoort – a technically demanding circuit with many iconic corners," the 18-year-old Proton Huber Competition driver looks ahead. One of these legendary sections of the track is the Tarzan-Bocht, a 180-degree right-hander at the end of the start-finish straight. According to legend, it bears the name of an allotment garden owner who only wanted to give up his refuge for the construction of the race track if a curve was named after him.

De Haan, who won both Carrera Cup races in Imola and just scored his first victory in the international Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Monaco, adds: "Hugenholtz-Bocht is also cool." This designation has a more mundane background: Hans Hugenholtz (1914–1995) planned the line and was its director for a long time. The Hugenholtz-Bocht is one of two banked corners of the Circuit Zandvoort. The Arie-Luyendyk-Bocht even surpasses international role models with an exaggeration of 32 percent. Together, they offer a special feature that does not distinguish any other circuit on the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland calendar.

"A great race track that presents us drivers with real challenges," is also the assessment of Alessandro Ghiretti. The Porsche Junior, who drives for the Schumacher CLRT team, celebrated his first victory in the German Carrera Cup at Spa-Francorchamps and won the Supercup race in Barcelona last weekend. The Frenchman finished second in the standings ahead of the second Porsche Junior, Theo Oeverhaus from the Bonk Motorsport team. The man from Osnabrück, who has also won the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup this season, has one wish above all for Zandvoort: "Finally two good races in one weekend."

The leader of the standings is also happy about a home race among the rookies: Sacha Norden, Robert de Haan's teammate at Proton Huber Competition, leads the standings of the Carrera Cup newcomers after four races. Among the ProAm drivers, the participants without a professional motorsport background, the German Michael Essmann from Team75 Bernhard is at the top of the overall standings.

"The holiday atmosphere and the always well-filled grandstands have made the two races in Zandvoort a season highlight for our drivers and our teams since 2019. In addition, we are competing together with the DTM for the first time this year – it will be a very special weekend," says Thorsten Rückert, Project Manager of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland.

Synthetic fuel in racing

With the approach of reducing CO₂ emissions in motorsport, the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland will use the synthetic fuel "DTM Pro Climate" at all eight race weekends in the 2025 season, which the ADAC is also using for the first time for its DTM, ADAC GT Masters and GT4 Germany series.

The circuit: Circuit Zandvoort (Netherlands)

Races have been held at the Circuit Zandvoort since 1948, and until the 1985 season, Formula 1 was a regular guest on the dune circuit on the North Sea coast. After a break of almost 40 years, the Dutch Grand Prix has been back on the calendar of the premier class of motorsport since 2021. Two years earlier, the German Carrera Cup had already returned to the track near Amsterdam. Last season, eventual champion Larry ten Voorde won both races for Proton Huber Competition.

Today's 4.259-kilometre circuit offers special challenges such as the two banked corners. In other places, the drivers can hardly see the course of the track from the cockpit perspective because of its crests and depressions. In addition, the sea wind blows sand onto the track again and again, creating sometimes unpredictable grip conditions.
