Proton Huber Competition extends lead in Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup

Theo Oeverhaus extended his lead in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Monaco. Proton Huber Competition also triumphed in the 12h Misano and the Porsche Sports Cup Suisse at the Red Bull Ring.

Proton Huber Competition has completed the second race weekend of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. The international one-make series was held on the legendary street circuit in Monaco. Regular drivers Theo Oeverhaus, Jaap van Lagen and Gus Burton were joined by Kai Pfister in the team. Pfister fulfilled a lifelong dream by competing in the Principality.

In qualifying, Porsche Junior Theo Oeverhaus secured a strong second place on the grid. Gus Burton also demonstrated his skills with ninth place on the grid. Jaap van Lagen, who had already won in Monaco, failed to complete a perfect lap in qualifying and only managed 15th place.

Like the race in Imola a week earlier, the race began with a multi-car accident and a race interruption. Jaap van Lagen was caught up in the chain reaction and had to retire from the race. After lengthy clean-up and repair work, the race was restarted for four laps, which meant that only half points could be awarded based on the laps completed.

Theo Oeverhaus from Osnabrück ultimately finished the race in second place, extending his lead in the standings after his opening victory in Imola, Italy. Gus Burton saw the chequered flag in a strong seventh place, although the Brit benefited from the chaos in front of him. Kai Pfister improved with every lap in the barrier channel and finished in 19th place.

‘I dont think I'm too far off the mark when I say that everyone in the paddock imagined the race in Monaco would be different. We are, of course, very happy with second place and with the team's best result in Monaco to date,’ said Michael Dirsch, who heads the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup programme at Proton Huber Competition. "Once again, it showed how important qualifying is on the streets of Monte Carlo. Theo and Gus achieved a great result for the team. Unfortunately, Jaap was unlucky and was involved in a mass collision after the start of the race. Kai improved steadily and achieved his goal of finishing the race. The fact that his race then only lasted four laps was beyond his control. We are now travelling to Barcelona, where we were able to gather some useful insights during official testing. We want to put that into practice and fight for the top positions again."

After two of eight races, Porsche Junior Theo Oeverhaus leads the championship by eleven points. The squad from Hofkirchen also continues to lead the team standings. The third race of the season will take place this coming weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, where the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup will be making its first appearance since 2020.

At the same time, Proton Huber Competition competed in the 12h Misano with a Porsche 911 GT3 R. Alongside Porsche contracted driver Klaus Bachler, who won the LMGT3 title in the World Endurance Championship in 2024, Jörg Dreisow, Manuel Lauck and Constantin Dressler drove the team's blue and orange Porsche. The quartet of drivers put in a strong performance throughout the race weekend, which was ultimately rewarded with class victory in GT3 Pro-Am. The team had already impressed on Friday, securing pole position. This is the team's first victory with a GT3 car in the endurance championship. The Porsche finished second in the overall standings, missing out on overall victory by less than a minute.

The Bavarian Porsche team's packed programme was rounded off by the Porsche Sports Cup Suisse at the Red Bull Ring in Styria. Karen Gaillard won the first GT3 Cup race in the Iron Dames Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, even though she had to compete with an injury to her foot. In the second race, the Swiss driver secured a strong second place. Dylan Yip left Styria without any points a week after his guest appearance in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
