Proton Huber Competition triumphs in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup

Proton Huber Competition wins in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup for the first time since 2022 - Porsche Junior Theo Oeverhaus wins the season opener in Imola

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup kicked off the 2025 season in Imola. Proton Huber Competition entered four Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. In addition to Porsche Junior Theo Oeverhaus, Jaap van Lagen, Gus Burton and guest entrant Dylan Yip drove for the team from Hofkirchen in Bavaria. The team travelled to Italy with good memories, as the team had already won both races of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany on the circuit near Bologna.

Theo Oeverhaus already caused a surprise in qualifying on Saturday: the Porsche Junior from Osnabrück qualified on pole position in the #3 Porsche. A result that few had expected before the race weekend.

In the race, the speedy driver from Lower Saxony was not fazed by a lengthy red flag in the race following a mass collision on the first lap. After a 20-minute interruption, Oeverhaus, who has already contested a race weekend in the DTM, drove to a superior victory. The talented youngster, who is also an ADAC Sports Foundation protégé, is the first Porsche Junior since Earl Bamber in 2014 to win his first Supercup race as a Porsche Junior.

For the Bavarian team led by Christoph Huber, it is the first victory in the highest-ranking Porsche one-make series since Silverstone 2022, when Laurin Heinrich won in the highly competitive one-make cup. Overall, it is the team's third victory in the international series.

‘I couldn't have wished for a better start to the season. I got away well at the start and was able to keep the pursuers behind me. I knew that if I didn't make a mistake, it would be difficult to overtake me on this track. After my rather mixed year last year, it's like a dream to win my first Supercup race here as a Porsche Junior,’ said a jubilant Theo Oeverhaus after the race on the traditional circuit in the Emilia-Romagna.

The Porsche team's other cars also impressed in Imola and stayed out of trouble. Dutch veteran Jaap van Lagen drove to a strong eighth place and scored important points. Gus Burton also scored points in twelfth place. Dylan Yip had to start the race from the back of the grid after a disqualification in qualifying and fought his way up to 19th place.

‘Imola means well for us this year. We are delighted to be back on the top step of the podium three years after Laurin's success at Silverstone,’ said Michael Dirsch, who heads the Proton Huber Competition programme in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. ‘Thanks to the whole team. The guys have been working tirelessly for weeks to master the double programme of Carrera Cup and Supercup. Today they have rewarded themselves and we won't forget this weekend in a hurry! Theo did a great job. He put in a strong lap in qualifying and intelligently drove the race from start to finish. With Jaap in the top 10 and Gus in the points, it's a great start for the whole team. Monaco is just around the corner, there's not much time to celebrate, but the guys have earned a nice evening and from tomorrow the full focus is on the next race!’

With the start on the street circuit in Monaco, the absolute highlight of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season will take place next weekend. The track in the Principality does not forgive any mistakes. Proton Huber Competition will also be competing in the 12h Misano and the Porsche Sports Cup Suisse at the Red Bull Ring at the same time.
