Impressive 11 entries for Suzuka 1000km return

Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific is delighted to have 11 entries ready for the first running of the Suzuka 1000km since 2019, with the German marque set to be the best-represented manufacturer on the grid on September 12-14.

The 49th edition of the Japanese enduro also marks the fourth and penultimate round of the 2025 SRO Intercontinental GT Challenge, in which Porsche currently sits second. Leading the charge are three Pro entries, all with very impressive driver line-ups and running re-creations of iconic past Porsche liveries.

First held in 1966, the Suzuka 1000km is one of the most revered endurance races in world motorsport. Returning for the first time in six years, this year’s edition will be the 49th in the event’s history and will give Porsche an opportunity to extend its own record of 11 outright victories.

Phantom Global Racing will take on its third Intercontinental GT Challenge event, having narrowly missed out on the podium at the 2024 Bathurst 12 Hour, as well as completing the 24 Hours of Spa in the same year. Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Selected Driver Dorian Boccolacci will be joined by fellow Porsche drivers Klaus Bachler and Patric Niederhauser. The team will be tackling the event in one of Porsche’s most legendary liveries, running the ‘Pink Pig’ design that was first used on the #23 Porsche 917/20 at the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans, before returning on the race-winning Porsche 911 RSR at the same event in 2018.

Absolute Racing return to the race where it took third at its most recent running in 2019. Kévin Estre, Laurens Vanthoor and Patrick Pilet will be at the wheel of the #911 Porsche 911 GT3 R. The trio has extensive experience at endurance races around the world, and will look to add the Suzuka 1000km to their collective racing CVs in a striking yellow and black design, which has taken inspiration from the 1985 24 Hours of Le Mans race-winning NewMan Joest Racing Porsche 956B.

The third Pro entry sees Origine Motorsport make its Intercontinental GT Challenge debut. The Chinese team has impressed since forming in 2021, taking titles in Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and GT World Challenge Asia, in addition to enduro wins at Sepang and Shanghai. Bastian Buus, Laurin Heinrich and former Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Selected Driver Alessio Picariello make up the driver trio. They will be racing in a livery based on Porsche’s first Suzuka 1000km winning car, which featured Henri Pescarolo and Bob Wollek in their stunning Kremer Racing 935 K3 back in 1981.

Eight further Porsche cars are scheduled to take to the famous Japanese track, including six from GT World Challenge Asia. Phantom Global Racing’s second entry sees Adderly Fong join forces in the #13 car with Porsche driver Nico Menzel, who has impressed in GT World Challenge Asia this year.

Origine Motorsport also field a second car, as Kerong Li and Anders Fjordbach look to back up their Silver-Am victory from Fuji Speedway. The duo is joined by current championship leader and reigning champion Leo Ye.

Daan Arrow has enjoyed a strong season for Vollgas Motorsport, in what is only the Korean team’s second year in operation. He’s been a regular challenger in the Silver-Am Cup, and will be partnered by Phil Kim and Alex Jiatong Liang for the Suzuka event, which is the squad’s endurance race debut.

EBM’s Adrian D’Silva continues his busy 2025 campaign, which has seen him take part in Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, GT World Challenge Asia and Super GT. The Malaysian driver is joined by Porsche driver Sven Müller and Harry King in the #61 Porsche 911 GT3 R.

Hiroaki Nagai and Kazuto Kotaka have tackled selected GT World Challenge Asia rounds this season, and will team up with Super GT race winner Takura Shinohara in the #18 Porsche Center Okazaki entry

The final GT World Challenge Asia entry to take on Suzuka is AMAC Motorsport. Australian duo Andrew Macpherson and Ben Porter have finished on the Am-class podium in all but one race together this season. They are joined by multiple Bathurst 12 Hour winner Grant Denyer in the #51 Porsche 911 GT3 R (991.2).

Absolute Racing will field a second car, with 2024-2025 Asian Le Mans Series champion Antares Au taking the wheel of the #93 car. He’s joined by experienced Porsche driver Richard Lietz, who has achieved an impressive six class wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and 2024 Carrera Cup North America champion Loek Hartog, who is also Porsche Motorsport North America Selected Driver.

Herberth Motorsport completes Porsche’s line-up with the #91 car as brothers Alfred and Robert Renauer team up with Ralf Bohn for the event, the very same line up that together won the 2021 Asian Le Mans Series, earning them an entry in the 2022 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Well-loved by fans and drivers, Suzuka is unique in its figure-of-eight shape, with the 5.807-kilometre circuit featuring some of the sport’s most famous corners, including the Esses, Spoon Curve and the daunting 130R. Official Practice begins on Friday 12 September, ahead of Qualifying at 17:05 local time (UTC+9) on Saturday. Finally, the six-and-a-half-hour race will get underway at 12:50 on Sunday.
