Martin takes championship lead in Scotland
Will Martin (Eden Motorsport), from Hastings in East Sussex took a lights-to-flag victory in the opening Porsche Carrera Cup GB race of a warm and sunny Knockhill weekend. The second encounter in Scotland delivered a new winner, with Rookie Sebastian Hopkins (Team Parker Racing) from Chichester in Hampshire racing to a maiden championship victory.
Oliver White (Eden Motorsport) from Bath in Somerset drove to Pro-Am victory in Round Nine, while there was a new winner in Round 10 when William Jenkins (Team Parker Racing) from Stafford stood on the top step of the category podium. Meanwhile, Jonathon Beeson (Duckhams Yuasa Racing by Graves Motorsport) from Crewe took two Am category wins.
Hopkins is new winner in Pro
Following a closely contested qualifying session, Martin took pole position, separated from Andrew Rackstraw (Rosland Gold by Century Motorsport), from Cape Town in South Africa, and Sid Smith (Team Parker Racing), from Maldon in Essex, by just 0.010 seconds. Martin got away cleanly at the start of the weekend’s first race to lead Rackstraw and Smith, RAFA Racing Club Porsche Carrera Cup GB 2024 / 2025 Junior James Wallis (JTR) moved ahead of George Gamble (Rosland Gold by Century Motorsport) from Nottingham to snatch fifth. Smith soon received a time penalty for track limits, which allowed Angus Whiteside (Century Motorsport) from Guildford in Surrey to adopt third place on corrected time. Gamble closed on Wallis forcing the Junior to defend, and this allowed Hopkins to join their battle.
In the closing stages of the race Wallis received a five second time penalty for track limits. Rackstraw reduced the gap to the leader in the final few laps, with less than half a second separating them, however, he could not find a way through. Martin enjoyed his fourth win of the season, joined on the overall podium by Rackstraw and Whiteside. After the race, the winner drew the number six ball, reversing the top six grid positions for the weekend’s second encounter. Pro-Am racer White would start on pole position for Round 10.
White got away neatly at the start of the second race in Scotland, Hopkins slotted in behind while Gamble held third. On lap 11 Hopkins got a run on White at the hairpin, drawing alongside on the main straight, and taking the race lead at Duffus Dip. Gamble soon made contact with White at the hairpin, White was delayed with a spin as a result while Gamble continued – he would later receive a penalty for the incident. At the same time Martin made contact with Rackstraw, and the latter also rotated before both drivers continued their races, and Martin would receive a penalty similar to that of Gamble for his similar issue. The order was now Hopkins from Gamble and Martin, and that is how things would remain to the flag, with Rookie Hopkins celebrating a maiden championship victory.
Jenkins is new winner in Pro-Am
White qualified ahead of his Pro-Am category rivals, he led Stanton and Max Coates (Duckhams Yuasa Racing by Graves Motorsport) from Richmond in North Yorkshire in the first race in Fife. Pro-Am racer Oliver Jackson (JTR) from Reigate in Surrey and Am driver Beeson came together at the chicane, Jackson was forced to pit where he made his retirement. Beeson continued his race, and he soon drove three abreast across the start line with Am rival Carl Cavers (Century Motorsport) from Nottingham and Pro-Am competitor, Henry Dawes (Century Motorsport) from Glasgow, emerging ahead. Coates soon came under pressure from Jenkins for third in the category, when the former made an error at the hairpin, Jenkins was able to get through. White, Stanton and Jenkins formed the first Pro-Am category podium of the day.
White started from reverse grid pole position in the weekend’s second race, and although he lost the overall lead in the first half of the race, he maintained his Pro-Am category advantage over Stanton and Jenkins. On lap eight Jenkins overtook Stanton for eighth overall at the hairpin, when White was forced into a spin Jenkins was clear to adopt the Pro-Am category lead, Stanton was now running in second with Jackson in third. Pro category driver, Smith, put Stanton under pressure in the closing stages of the race for seventh overall, but it would not impact the end result. Jenkins enjoyed a maiden Pro-Am victory, with Stanton and Jackson joining him on the category podium.
Beeson wins two races in Am
Beeson qualified ahead of Cavers in the Am category battle, and he led his rival at the start of the weekend’s first race. Beeson fell behind Cavers when he became embroiled in a scrap with Pro-Am category racers Jackson, and Dawes, but he eventually recovered to enjoy his sixth category win of the season. The weekend’s second race was a similar story, with Beeson driving to another category win, completing his perfect weekend.
