New champions crowned in four classes in great Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East final!
What a great final for the Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East season 2024/2025, the second of the series, with the last two races run as a support event to the STC Formula 1 Grand Prix of Saudi Arabia! With Janne Stiak already having won the overall and rookie titles one week ago at Bahrain, four new champions in different classes were crowned at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, the fastest street circuit worldwide.
James Wallis, Porsche GB Junior Driver, was leading the pack in the first free practice. Driving the pink BWT Junior car for the first time, the Brit who finished on the podium in all his 2024/2025 PCCME starts, was very happy about this chance: “It«s a great honor and also a pleasure to drive the pink BWT machine, which is an icon in the Porsche motorsport world”, Wallis stated. He was followed by the two ProAM and GCC drivers from Saudi Arabia, Saud Al Saud and Khaled Alahmadi. Bankcy from Japan in P6 overall topped the Masters category.
Strong floodlights then bathed the famous Jeddah Corniche Street circuit into near daylight brightness, creating a great atmosphere for the second free practice. Ending the first day of the Grand Prix of Saudi Arabia, which celebrated its fifth anniversary this year, the PCCME drivers took the last chance to prepare for qualifying the next day. Leading the timesheet again was Wallis followed by Alahmadi and Caleb Sumich from Australia in P3. Bankcy in P6 overall again topped the Masters category.
Qualifying opened Saturday track action, with Alahmadi setting the fastest time at his home circuit at the Jeddah Corniche, just ahead of Caleb Sumich, who secured pole for the second race with the fastest second-best time, and Saud Al Saud, the second Saudi Racing driver. Mike Mim from Bulgaria topped the Masters category.
After a very close Formula 1 qualifying, the Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East also delivered a lot of action during the first race of the last weekend of the season. Under the bright floodlights of the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, there was quite a bit of turmoil and drama after the start, which saw pole sitter Khaled Alahmadi pushed out of the race immediately - a huge blow to his championship hopes in the ProAM and GCC class.
Just before the Safety Car came out Caleb Sumich passed Saud Al Saud for the lead and the Australian then also went on to win ahead of James Wallis, who managed to overtake Saud Al Saud, winner of the ProAM and GCC class, for P2. Alexandra Vateva, the only female driver in the series, in P4 overall, made it to the podium again, reaching P2 in the ProAM class. Victory in the Masters category went to Mike Mim from Bulgaria, while Bankcy from Japan was crowned the first champion in the new class. After seven consecutive class victories, P3 in class behind Mim and Petr Brecka was enough to secure the title in the penultimate race of the season.
On Sunday, Caleb Sumich made himself a great birthday present by winning the final race of the season. It was an incredibly close finish at the Jeddah Corniche Street circuit, a great opening for the STC Saudi Arabian Formula 1 GP race day, with the Australian seeing the chequered flag just 0.145 seconds ahead of James Wallis from Great Britain in the pink BWT Junior car. Third placed local hero Khaled Alahmadi, the winner of the ProAM and GCC class, was also only 0.7 seconds behind, but his effort was not enough to make up for his retirement the day before in the fight for the ProAM and GCC championship. Both titles went to his teammate Saud Al Saud, who finished in fourth place overall just behind him. After already winning the GCC title last year, he now added the ProAM championship to his track record in front of the local crowd. The team championship went to Saudi Racing, who were also able to celebrate at their home race.
Bankcy from Japan secured his eighth-class win of the season in the Masters category in P6 overall, this time ahead of Mim and Brecka.
Robert Lechner, Series Head and Promoter, was really happy:
"First of all, congratulations to all our winners and the new champions! It was great for us to be able to run our season finale in front of a huge crowd at this very special Formula 1 event, which celebrated its fifth anniversary this year. This was a fantastic platform for the series and also a great experience for our new champions to be able to celebrate in front of so many fans. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody for this impressive second PCCME season, from my organizing crew to all the teams and competitors, our sponsors, and our partners. I hope we will be back all together in a bit more than half a year for a new season."
