Porsche Junior Flynt Schuring with first victory, Masters at the top of the standings
Porsche Junior Flynt Schuring (NL/Schumacher CLRT) won round four of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland on Sunday. At the Red Bull Ring in Austria, the 19-year-old prevailed with his Porsche 911 Cup against 29 drivers from 13 nations. "I'm mega happy with my victory. The first three races were very difficult for me, but now I'm hoping for more successes," said a happy Schuring, who also set the fastest race lap. Second and third place on the podium went to Keagan Masters (ZA/Proton Competition) and Porsche Junior Marcus Amand (FIN/Proton Competition). After four of 16 races, Masters leads the overall standings with 76 points ahead of Alexander Tauscher (D/Target, 65 points) and Theo Oeverhaus (D/ID Racing, 60 points).
Schuring started the 30-minute race from pole position and took the lead. Behind him was Amand until the halfway point of the race, followed by Masters. On lap twelve, Masters took his chance and passed Amand. Shortly before the end of the race, the safety car had to be deployed and the race ended under the safety car. "We had a strong race weekend as Team Proton Competition. It also went very well for me personally with the overall lead," Masters summed up. The South African, who enjoys playing golf in his spare time and applies the mental skills he learned there to motorsport, has been on the podium in all four races so far. Three second places and one third place ensured a consistent points haul.
The fourth race on the 4.326-kilometre Formula 1 racetrack did not give Tauscher a podium, but the Bavarian took a position on the first lap and collected important points for the overall standings in fourth place. Talent Pool driver Joseph Warhurst (UK/Target) finished fifth. Oeverhaus from Osnabrück, who scored two victories at the season opener in Imola, finished sixth ahead of Brazilian Matheus Ferreira (Team GP Elite) and Wouter Boerekamps (Team GP Elite) from the Netherlands. As the best rookie, 19-year-old Chester Kieffer from Luxembourg climbed onto the podium for series newcomers. The trophy as the most successful ProAm driver went to Sören Spreng (D/GP Elite).
"As a series as part of the DTM weekend, we were able to enjoy well-filled grandstands and many fans in the paddock at the Red Bull Ring. Saturday's race was an example of the competitive intensity in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland. On Sunday, things were a little quieter. We were delighted that Laurin Heinrich stopped by. In 2022, he won the Carrera Cup, became a Porsche Junior and now he's a Porsche works driver. That's a real success story from our one-make cup," said Thorsten Rückert, Project Manager Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland.
After a two-weekend break, the participants will head to the next stop of the season: Races five and six will be held at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps racetrack. From 15 to 17 May, the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland will be a guest at the International GT Open. Fans can already look forward to races with capricious weather in the Ardennes, because due to geographical conditions, everything is possible there in a short time, from pouring rain to sunshine and sleet showers. Luxembourg's Chester Kieffer (Schumacher CLRT) has the shortest journey to Belgium: the Talent Pool driver lives only about 100 kilometres from Spa.
