Proton Huber Competition with exciting driver line-up in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup
Proton Huber Competition will start this year's Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season with an exciting driver line-up - highly talented young drivers meet experienced veterans in the Bavarian team.
2025 will be Proton Huber Competition's fifth full season in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. The series, which is held as part of the Formula 1 supporting programme, is regarded as the world's strongest Porsche one-make series. The Bavarian team will compete with four cars.
After a mixed year in 2024, Christoph Huber's team wants to strike back in 2025, for which the team from Hofkirchen is currently preparing meticulously. With extensive testing, the expertise of the team members and the expertise of strong drivers, the champion team from the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland has put together a strong package for the 2025 season.
New to the team: young talent Theo Oeverhaus
20-year-old Theo Oeverhaus from Lower Saxony has been appointed as the new Porsche Junior for the 2025 season, having previously attracted attention with strong performances in the German Cup, where he won the rookie classification in 2023. Oeverhaus receives further support from the ADAC Sports Foundation, of which he is a member. In the winter months, he has already contested the Dubai 24 Hours with Proton Huber Competition and won a race in Barcelona in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe. He has already been able to familiarise himself with his new team at these events and is therefore well prepared for the new season.
‘I am absolutely thrilled to be racing for Proton Huber Competition in the 2025 season! Being part of such a strong team is a great opportunity and I can't wait to get started. A big thank you to everyone who has made this possible,’ says Oeverhaus full of confidence. Christoph Huber adds: ‘Theo is a great fit for our team and I am confident that we will have a very successful season together. Through Dennis Olsen and Laurin Heinrich, we already have experience of working with Porsche juniors and both times it was very successful!’
A wealth of experience thanks to Jaap van Lagen
The 48-year-old Dutchman Jaap van Lagen, on the other hand, is one of the most experienced drivers in the field and has been competing regularly in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup since 2007. In his long career, he became champion in the Renault Mégane Eurocup in 2006 and narrowly missed out on the ADAC GT Masters title in 2014. With a podium finish last season, the former Lada works driver proved that he is still one of the fastest drivers in the highly competitive one-make series. With his experience, he will also be able to help the fast young drivers at Proton Huber Competition with tips and tricks.
‘I'm delighted to be competing in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup with Proton Huber Competition,’ said the Dutchman with a broad grin on his face. ‘I've known Christoph for 15 years and we've worked together regularly, but I've never been a driver in his team. My goal is to regularly finish the races in the top 10.’ ‘Jaap's signing closes the circle between his work and mine at Walter Lechner Senior. We worked together 15 years ago in the Middle East Championship. After his Supercup podium last year, it was clear to me that I wanted Jaap in my team and that he would bring a lot of experience and consistency to the team,’ says Christoph Huber. The Proton Huber Competition team boss adds with a laugh: ‘It's well known that we have a weakness for fast Dutch drivers.’
Second season for Gus Burton in the Supercup
Young Briton Gus Burton has already gained experience in the British and North American Carrera Cup in recent years and drove a full season in the Supercup in 2023. The 2021 champion in the GT4 class of British GT has taken race wins in the two heavily contested national series in recent years and has continued to develop as a driver, so he will be a force to be reckoned with this year!
‘Gus proved his talent last year in the British Cup and was able to take several victories in the highly competitive series. He also knows the Supercup. I am sure that we will be able to achieve strong results with him this year,’ explains Huber.
Guest entrants enrich the line-up
As in the previous year, the fourth car will be driven by alternating guest entrants. Proton Huber Competition made history in 2024 when Dominique Bastien, aged 78, became the oldest participant in the history of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the season finale in Monza. Dylan Yip from Macau will drive the car at the season opener in Imola - the former ADAC GT Masters driver knows the team and the car from the Porsche Sports Cup Suisse.
‘Giving up is not an option - as the oldest team in the Carrera Cup Germany, we will fly the flag in the Supercup with the same sporting spirit and determination. I am very optimistic that we will be able to compete with the Pinks and Blacks in the Supercup, even if there is certainly still a respect gap, as both of the teams mentioned obviously have a lot of experience. But that's my motivation: to beat the pink and black cars and we're working hard to achieve that!’ says Christoph Huber, confidently setting the course.
This year, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup will be held as part of the supporting programme of eight European Formula 1 events. The races will take place on Sunday afternoon directly before the premier class. The highlight of the season is the legendary city race in Monaco. After several years of absence, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya returns to the one-make series calendar. All races will be broadcast live on SKY Sport F1 and on Eurosport.
